http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=8e2w1z2GXn8 I'd rather my kids learning creationism than being taught this. Teacher needs her ass kicked.
religion is supposed to teach morality. i don't agree with people that try and force their beliefs down another persons throat. I think science is best taught in schools, religion in church and politics at home. I have no problem with a teacher teaching my kids how the earth was formed and evolution, i have my own theories that are based on science as well as religion. But I do not want a teacher telling my kids that they are stupid because they believe in God. I could argue the point of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe based on the theory of evolution just as well. Kids are in school to learn the building blocks that will get them started on a path to be prosperous. Not about gays or one political party is better than another. That stuff is best learned at home. School should be Reading, writing, arithmetic, social skills, athletics and maybe home economics and how to build a 350 small block with a 6 pack, 4 on the floor and a 4:11 rearend. I also think the Constitution and Bill of Rights should be recquired reading.(politicians should be recquired to memorize it as a qualification for office)
kids are not stupid for believing in god. even smart kids believe in god. kids dont really think about these things they just parrot adults. if you asked me at age 8 i woulda said i believe in god. i didnt really, but i was a clueless kid. so nobody advocates telling kids they are stupid for believing in god. even the parents are not necessarily stupid, but they are teaching stupid things.
This is what makes the voucher system in Louisiana essentially a piece of shit. Many folks falsely assume that private schools are simply better than public. That absolutely isn't true. And even within a poorly-performing school, students can learn--but most failing schools DO have serious problems, no doubt. However, what's to say that the voucher-accepting schools are any better? That's a gripe that I have in Texas. So much emphasis is put on "high stakes testing" in public schools, but the private schools have nothing to answer to. A former co-worker retired from the public system and took a job in a private school. She said the kids weren't receiving a fraction of what they did at the school where we taught. The teachers, by the way, only receive a fraction of public school teachers' salaries. Not in every private school, but in many. My first job teaching in Louisiana in 1992 was in a private school--for 13,000 dollars a year. Pathetic, and the school lacked resources for even an adequate, functioning library--but many in the town considered the school great because it was private. It was, by far, the most run-down facility/campus I've taught on in 21 years.
in new york the opposite is true. kids are desperate to get into charter schools and most have lotteries. they are a like a ticket to success because they ahave different standards because the publics (with the exception of the special schools like bronx science and a few other public scoools that import smart kids from all the boroughs) are terrible mostly because of the power of teachers unions and their resistance to teaching standards.
I went to public schools in California then Deer Park Texas before moving to Mississippi. The difference between my Jr high and high school in Texas as compared to high school in Miss. was, might I say, a culture shock. My classmates in Texas dreamed of college, in Miss. it was Popeyes.
that can be a serious question. Taxpayer funded private schools teaching creationism. Im a Christian, i'll teach my son about the bible at home and in church. There is a reason for separation of church and state my friend.
Right, which is why if your child was eligible for a voucher you would not send him to a school that taught it. I think that is where people are getting lost on this issue, it is not like all 119 schools teach it, I believe the article says 19 were confirmed. I can’t help but to notice that they didn’t mentioned how many vouchers those 19 were receiving.
If you don't like it, don't go to school there. Aren't you the one clamoring about choice? By your logic the entire voucher system shouldn't exist. I actually think it's a good program. You keep talking about teaching kids that 1+1=99 is wrong. Well in these situations, they have the choice between a failing school that's actually teaching that, and a school that is teaching stuff that is against general consensus.
