The hot rumor around the Southeast this past week is that Frank Wilson, LSU’s assistant head coach, recruiting coordinator and running back coach, is a serious candidate to take over the soon-to-be-vacant head coaching job at Troy. The job will be open as soon as Troy completes its season-finale at home against UL-Lafayette, and some outlets are reporting that Wilson has already interviewed for the vacancy. Wilson is the man tasked with bringing blue chip recruits to LSU each season, and stud freshman running back Leaonrd Fournette, arguably the biggest fish Wilson has landed in Baton Rouge, told reporters with certainly that Wilson will not be taking the Troy job. "He’s not going no where,” Fournette said of the man who was his primary recruiter and now serves as his position coach. LSU coach Les Miles on the other hand said after LSU’s win against Texas A&M that he had no idea the Wilson-to-Troy rumor even existed. "Obviously it’s a compliment to the program when our assistant coaches are mentioned for jobs,” Miles said. "I can only tell you I think he’s a great coach. Certainly he’s going to have a great career. I can also tell you that I do not know the status of any of that. I’m just ready to get on the plane and go home.” Before arriving at LSU Wilson served as an assistant coach at Tennessee, Southern Miss and Ole Miss. Prior to that he coached high school football in his hometown of New Orleans.
