See Larry Porter, was a RB's coach before LSU, was a RB's coach at LSU. Took the Memphis job, now three stops later, still a RB's coach. Porter came with Les from Okie Lite. Remember, you have to fill a staff. Mike Heywood did it at Miami of O, but he took a bunch of old former LSU coaches and filled a staff, an done well doing it this way. Saw Frank and family a few months back, has a bunch of young kids, does he move them? Can he make it work at Troy? They would have to bump up his pay, he is making more that the former coach.
He has a better job than Troy HC now. I don't think he takes it unless he sees it as a steppingstone to a major job. Troy is in Alabama. Who is he going to recruit over Bama and Auburn? And forget about those New Orleans 5 stars. They won't go to Troy either. If Cam were to leave I could see Wilson being elevated to OC at LSU.
Agree, I don't see Troy as a steppingstone. Blakeney has been there 23 years, an being shown the door.
Wilson has the potential to be HC at a big time program if he plays his cards right. Jimbo Fisher turned down several lesser jobs before becoming Bobby Bowden's "coach in waiting" at FSU. Is South Carolina looking for a coach-in-waiting to replace Spurrier?
He makes more money now than the outgoing Troy coach was paid. He might not be able to jump directly from position coach to major HC job but there are better springboard jobs than Troy.
