If you will notice, I didn't speculate on his coaching future. Suppose Ole Miss beats them this week and OU issues a 54-10 beatdown later in the season. Do I think Mack Brown will be coaching Texas in 2014? No, but it wouldn't surprise me if he was. Regardless, he has ran a clean, winning and profitable program for as long any other current head coach of a major program. Ironically, Bob Stoops is the only coach that is just as tenured, that comes to mind. Mack Brown would have to harm the university to get walking papers and losing football games does not harm a school like and especially Texas. He'll step aside on his own terms, Texas owes it to him. In time there will be a street, building or other facility named for him on the campus in Austin.

I have friends who are close to the program in Austin, and apparently big name boosters are talking finally.

I certainly can't see DeLoss Dodds firing Mack Brown on his own. If pressured to do so by the board? We'd see a "Tuberville" resignation.

Would a loss to Ole Miss pretty well spell out Brown and TX need to win the Big12 this season or it really will spell doom? There's sufficient reason to think so.

Let's also not forget that it's not like a Texan to admit that he was wrong. UT gave Mack a huge extension, and I wonder how much their own egos have prevented them from putting him on the hotseat sooner.

@TerryP Unlike Tuberville, Brown won't leave Texas unless he wants to. He just might not be on their sidelines anymore.

I would be good money that Mack slides into the AD position as soon as Dodds decides he is done.

There's a lot that's alike, and a lot starkly different between both coaches story's.

To prominent—if indeed he did remain in the athletic department.

With football being the driving sport behind alumni activity would a school like TX want the guy who just lost control of the football program sitting in that chair?

I'd love to know how you've come to the conclusion you have with your perception of the TX fan base and more specifically alumni groups.

IF I'm reading you correctly you're suggesting that simply because they're TX they support a new athletic director that happens to be the same guy that just lost control of their cash cow—the football program?

"You lost control of this, here's even more to oversee Mack."

Seriously? At best I can see him tucked away in an office in the building. But I find myself shaking my head when I try to picture it.

I recall being in Norman, OK two years removed from the Sooners winning the championship. At the time Switzer was building a new house on a hill that overlooked a portion of the campus. I found a lot of disdain about him from those who were there watching camp.

While the two circumstances are different, the football fans that come out of that region aren't that different in their thinking. I could easily see the same persona non grata status given to Mack.
