What do you think, Dad? I see them losing to OU, certainly. But Snyder will probably beat them, too. Iowa State sucks year in and year out, like Kentucky, so they may win that. I don't see Brown lasting the year, and he may not make it out of October. UT tolerated not even being bowl eligible in '10 (they shouldn't have, though), but having it happen again so soon? Hey, hey, hey...goodbye...
I think Mack gets to finish the season. A change right now won't get them back into the hunt. You have to figure that the Texas AD is putting out feelers already . . .
Who is Texas going to get? The top coaches in the game are not leaving their cushy high-paid, cool-seat positions to rebuild at Texas. So do they get a upper-tier coach with issues like Petrino or do they go looking for a lower-tier coach with a lot of upside, like LSU did with Nick and Les?
That school pulls in tons of money...paying more than any other school would not be an issue. Going to Texas is a sweet gig for any head coach. I realize this is an article from 2011, but I will find you a newer one if you want. http://www.businessinsider.com/college-basketball-programs-make-the-most-money-2011-9?op=1 Here you go...a little more recent http://espn.go.com/blog/playbook/dollars/post/_/id/2556/texas-tops-in-football-profit-revenue The University of Texas football program in 2011-12 generated the most revenue and highest profit among all programs, according to NCAA data. The numbers, in millions: SchoolRev.Exp.Profit Texas$103.8$25.9$77.9 Michigan$85.2$23.6$61.6 Georgia$75.0$22.7$52.3 Florida$74.1$23.1$51.1 Alabama$82.0$36.9$45.1 LSU$68.8$24.1$44.8 Auburn$77.2$33.3$43.8 Notre Dame$69.0$25.8$43.2 Arkansas$64.2$24.3$39.9 Nebraska$55.1$18.7$36.4
I think Texas will indeed pursue Saban and I imagine Saban will at least listen because IMO Texas will throw out a huge $ figure in order to get his attention. Whether he actually goes is another thing and probably does have a lot to do with whether the Gumps get penalized by these allegations and to what extent they are penalized. That said, if I were in Texas shoes I would be looking for an up and comer as Red alluded to, who has something to prove and is still trying to make a name for themselves.
With the recruiting hot-bed known as TX, the ability and willingness to pay anything to be relevant again... UT could realistically get any coach they want. Whether they are willing to give the coach everything he wants is the question. As an example, with the resurgence of Bama, if they were willing to concede total control of the football program to Saban, throw $10M in garuanteed money, with another $10M in incentives... it'd be almost impossible to not get him.
The money and the recruiting base is sweet, for sure. But the pressure is really high. I was surprised that Mack left North Carolina. He could have coached there until retirement, making good money and no expectations of being a perennial NC contender.
I agree that the pressure is high but look at Nick Saban at Bama. That school goes ballistic if they are not 1) beating Auburn every year and 2) playing for and winning the NC. I would have to say that after living in Birmingham for all those years, the pressure is equally as high for the coach at Bama.
