I looked at the videos. Conclusion: Blount overreacted to fan taunting. He wasn't in any danger. The sucker punch on the field was inexcusable. Blount appears to be a common thug. A 10 game "supension" and a single appearance at the end of the season was sufficient punishment.

    Again, who is saying that?

FWIW, the SEC does have the most major NCAA infractions since 1987 with 13 (thanks bama!). However, LSU & Vandy are the only two schools in the conference without one since then. The PAC-12 and Big-12 are second, with 12 each. So, the SEC isn't really that much dirtier than other conferences.

I hate this rationale. If you were a drug dealer, caught in the act, what do you think the judge's reaction would be if your defense was "Not guilty, because everybody does it." You'd get thrown under the jail is what would happen.

Even if we accept the premise that no school is completely clean, some schools are clearly doing more than their fair share to make it that way.

Conversely, some schools try extra hard to play by the rules. I'm proud to say my school is one of those.

LSU's only infraction was tied in with men's and women's basketball. Men's basketball was sanctioned, football received a one year probationary monitoring period without sanctions.

Without basketball being sanctioned (the infamous Lester Earl incident), it wouldn't have been considered a major infraction, and we'd be tied with Stanford and Vanderbilt as schools with no major infractions.

I'm not saying it because I think it's ok. It's in response to people calling Oregon players "thugs". They act like their university is above suspicion. Lyles mentioned LSU as well. Oregon's in the spotlight right now, but it could easily be any one of several teams.

    Just sayin'

Lyle's comments actually made LSU look good for the most part. You know, the part about receiving a checklist to follow, and having to provide film over the length of the deal.

    Oregon, not so much.

And which other schools would you nominate for the spot light? USC got hammered, tOSU is about to, Tennessee looks like they deflected the worst of their charges onto Kiffen.

As far as LSU, we have a long recorded history of doing things the right way, and self-reporting when we don't. It's why the NCAA has never sanctioned LSU for anything meaningful, other than a one year probationary monitoring period. LSU's only penalties to date have been self-imposed, and for minor transgressions.

We're not just acting like we're above suspicion. We are.

I'm not nominating anyone. I'm just saying, every year there are schools that get dinged by the NCAA. This year it's Oregon, next year? Who knows. Ask Yahoo! Sports. They seem to be in the know of the next big thing.

Bottom line, Oregon's players are not "Thugs". Blount let his emotions get the best of him, and was justly punished for his actions. LMJ was defending himself against a crazy ex-girlfriend that didn't like the fact that he moved on. He never choked her as the media kept saying. He had his hands on her shoulders to keep her from hitting him. So the only player I can see calling a thug is Masoli. People are quick to label the next Thug U, but it's going to take quite a bit more to match the "U".

LSU has had issues in the past with their players (Perrilloux, Odem, etc) Which were actually involved in brawls at night clubs. Every team has a few kids that don't always make the right choices. It's part of college football. It's part of college!

We have issues with players? Compared to other teams? It's been three years since the last one, Ryan Perrilloux, was kicked off the team. And he was the starting QB. It was tough call, but it set the tone for an LSU program that hasn't had many players get in trouble before or since.

There are teams that have multiple suspensions every year. Maybe you know of one that fits that description?

Depends on who you want to believe. The "players" who wouldn't come forward and be named, or the high profile players like this one:

Just to put this in perspective, Vincent was both the 2003 MVP of the SEC Championship Game and the 2004 MVP of BCS National Championship Game (Sugar Bowl). As a freshman. And he said he "...never saw any or got any for himself."

As far as the former Auburn player:

McClover was one of the Auburn players LSU fans hassled after an apparent late hit. Yeah, he had no axe to grind.

Now, explain to me exactly what kind of penalties you think LSU will receive as a result of these accusations. Nothing sound about right?

No school can watch all of it's athletes 100% of the time. Some just do a better job than others. Some do far worse than most.

I'm glad my school is one of the former, as opposed to the latter.
