Blount didn't seek anyone out in that game. They got shut down and he was hyped but couldn't get going. He was frustrated but never approached the Boise players......a DE by the name of Hoyt I think, clearly provoked him. Not condoning it but the Boise guy got what was coming to him. He taunted Blount and got dropped. That was it
Blount walked up to the Boise State players on their side of the field and sucker-punched a Boise St player right in front of the Boise State coach. go youtube 'Blount punch' and you can see plenty of videos of it
Blount was going ballistic from the time he hit the other guy until he was out of the camera's sight. The "mitigating circumstances" were that someone called him a name. I bet that is the first time an opposing fan has ever done that at a ball game. I'm shocked that someone would do that after witnessing a sucker punch on the big screen. I don't buy the spin Oregon was selling to get Blount back on the team. The kid was a problem child before this incident happened. He missed 10 whole games as punishment. Wow that is almost 2 and a half months keeping his mouth shut and doing what he is told so he can have a shot at millions in the pros. Chip Kelly got him back on the field as fast as he could, but not because it benefited Kelly. No, of course not, Kelly was just trying to give a disadvantaged young man that committed assault on national T.V. a second chance because Kelly is a loving caring human being. He could care less if he made a touchdown in the Rose Bowl or not. His only concern is that he mentor this troubled youth. What are the chances that 2 people in the same backfield--Blount and Masoli would turn out the way they did? I hear character is one of the first things Chip considers when he recruits. And now Chip is caught up in a recruiting scandal. Bravo Chip Kelly!!! Don't believe the spin, always look at what is actually done and who benefits by it. Now if Les Miles did this sh$t I would say he was completely innocent and he would be!
reports (citing "multiple sources close to the Oregon football program") are coming out that Josh Gibson, a staff member in the athletic department (assistant to the director of football operations) is no longer employed by Oregon: Report: Oregon's Josh Gibson relieved of duties - CBSSports.com in that big Lyles interview, Lyles said that both Gibson and Kelly personally approved the $25,000. Lyles also provided that email that Gibson forwarded from Bill Clever (Oregon's Compliance Director), where the two of them worked with Lyles to help Seastrunk go behind his mother's back to sign with Oregon however, Oregon spokesperson Dave Williford is flatly denying that Gibson is gone: Oregon spokesman denies internet report that Josh Gibson has been removed as assistant director of football operations | OregonLive.com
Tiger_Fan, College football is fun, but you don't seem to be having a very good time. I've read many of your recent posts, every word, (and that's a lot). In between the facts, and your take on them, are bombastic statements like; "..If I were a Duck fan I'd be furious....", "i think your uniforms are a disgrace to the game and to your own school.", etc. Valid remarks, but you seem overly upset. Nobody cares more about the Ducks than I do. Trust me when I say, Duck fans remember the BSU game as a bad dream, and Blount's meltdown, a surreal nightmare. His actions are indefensible. I defend Chip Kelly, because I think he handled the situation admirably. I support Chip Kelly because I believe he's a fine coach, and a man of high character. Perhaps I'm a victim of Oregon AD spin, we'll see, the facts aren't out yet. No matter how this mess washes out, even if they fire Kelly and his whole staff, I'll remain a proud Duck. I want the truth revealed, indisputably, so the world will know that... Oregon did the right thing. After, when we're back on track, I'll enjoy the ride back to the top.
Are you high? I haven't been bashing Oregon in this thread, but Blount is a douche bag. He clearly sucker punched the player. Nothing someone said on a football field justifies that. He should never have been allowed to step on an NCAA field ever again.
Yes I'm high but that has nothing to do with it. I said I don't condone it but these are man children playing a violent game. Hoyt made a punk move and he got checked. Blount didn't seek anyone out. Blount got punished and I'm sure he would agree that it wasn't worth clocking a guy on the chin. I was just referring to one post. If I responded out of context my bad. These threads can be way off after a few pages. Sorry but to say he should never be allowed to step on a field again is harsh. It was wrong but u take ur punishment and move on. Way worse things go on in the course of a game.
It's obvious you just want to bash Oregon. If you'd bother to read the facts, you'd know the following: -Never said Blount wasn't at fault for what he did, but the BSU player did taunt him prior to the punch. What the Jumbotron operator did was basically incite a riotous state. -When Blount was reinstated, he was the 4th string RB. He only played because the 3rd string player was injured. -Many college players go the JUCO route if they can't make it academically out of high school. Where Blount (or most any recruit for that matter) went to JC is irrelevant. Cam Newton was a JUCO guy. -Kelly gives his players 2nd chances. Once Masoli ruined that chance, he was gone. Kept his word, and did what he said he would do. I don't see any lies there. Ol' Miss had no issues with picking him up, so maybe you're argument there is with them, not Oregon. -Harris was defending his little brother who was being harassed by said officer for not taking off a hat. I would have done the same. As far as the tickets, yeah, that was stupid, but doesn't make him a "thug". -Oregon didn't pay $25k to Lyles for Seastrunk to come to Oregon. He said multiple times that he never directed a single player to ANY school. Why would he escort Seastrunk to LSU if he wanted him to go to Oregon for the payday? Makes no sense. -LMJ was recruited 4 years ago! Lyles didn't even have a service then. Plus why would Oregon pay for a lightly recruited 3 star running back? Hardly any major programs offered him until he verbally committed to Oregon. I don't see Oregon as being dirty. I'd bet at least half of the SEC teams are doing shadier things than Oregon ever did. They've just been playing the game longer, so they know how to cover their tracks better.
