Both scenarios seem equally plausible to me.

I usually pull for Oregon, especially in recent years because I have pulled against USC. When the Blount incident happened I went from having respect for Chip Kelly, when he kicked him off the team, to disappointment when he caved and allowed him to play. When he allowed him to come back and play I lost respect for Kelly and he showed his true character as far as I'm concerned.

To be honest, the Blount thing didn't really bother me that much. I thought Masoli was ten times the thug Blount was. Plus I will always say that Boise State dude deserved to get ktfo.

I think Kelly showed his true character also.

Chip Kelly knew he would catch a lot of heat for adjusting Blount's punishment.

Blount a senior, was originally suspended for the season, effectively ending his college football career.

Mitigating circumstances were later found, mostly unreported, that contributed to Blount's meltdown near the stands.

The easy decision was to throw Blount to the curb, and basically destroy his life.

Chip took the heat, and gave Blount a chance to play again, but with strict conditions. If Blount screwed up, he was gone.

After a 7 game suspension, Blount was named Oregon's fourth string RB.

Blount did not play until 4 games later, the final game of the regular season. When the Duck's 3rd stringer was injured, Blount entered the game.

Blount took advantage of his chance, (unlike Masoli), he accepted his punishment, and kept his nose clean. He missed 10 games because of the BSU incident and never publicly complained.

Blount was picked up by an NFL team, and had a very fine rookie season.

    Bravo! Chip Kelly

What were these "mitigating circumstances"? I'm just curious.

I've always found Oregon interesting. They are unique, tastefully original, freshly energetic, they carry a touch of class, and do all of that without displaying too much arrogance.

This clown is obviously not associated with the Ducks.

Just hearsay, on my part, (blog posts), but the story is:
As Blount was being led out of the stadium, a fan in the stands got Blount's attention by shouting racial epithets. The BSU fan lifted a folding chair and started to swing it at Blount. That triggered Blount to go ballistic. There was a video posted on a Duck blog that supposedly supported this. Very poor quality video, I couldn't really see anything.
