Wow. I believe that is the first clip I've ever seen of LSU's track team. I'm watching a bunch of guys from major colleges line up for the big 60-yard dash final, and only one school has two guys that qualified to race in the final... and that school was LSU. Not only that, but before the race starts, the announcer says "watch lanes 4 and 5" -- in other words, watch the two LSU guys, Thompson and Holliday. Sure enough, Thompson and Holliday blow the rest of the field out of the water in the race. Is having two LSU men's sprinters dominate like that a unique experience in LSU men's track and field history, or has something like this happened before?
Again... wow. They show the women's 100 yard dash, and three LSU women blow the rest of the field out of the water in the race. Then they show the men's 100 yard dash, and two LSU men (Johnson and Holliday) blow the rest of the field out of the water. That is insane. Is this something special in LSU history or NCAA history, or has something like this happened before? Note how the announcer, while referring to LSU's Johnson and Holliday before the race, says: "this dynamic duo, unbelievable." In the history of not just LSU track and field, but in the history of all of college track and field, its possible that LSU's Johnson and Holliday are unbelievable, that they are mega-stars that will go down in history, right?
So how many sprint championships has LSU won over the last 20-30 years compared to other schools? When have we dominated as much as we have in sprint events as we did this year? P.S. USC sucks.
Our women's track team won something like 15 NCAA outdoor championships in a row. Track has dominated for a long time at LSU.
Our women's track team won the NCAA outdoor national championship each and every year between '87 and '97 -- 11 seasons straight. They also won the NCAA outdoor national championship in 2000 and 2003 -- giving them a total of 13 NCAA national titles for outdoor track. Our women's track team won the NCAA indoor championship in '87, '89, '91, '93 to '97, and '02 to '04... giving them a total of 11 NCAA national titles for indoor track. Our men's track team won the NCAA outdoor championship back to back in '89 and '90. They also won the NCAA outdoor championship in 2002. They also won another outdoor national title way back in 1933... giving LSU a total of 4 NCAA national titles for outdoor track. Our men's track team won the NCAA indoor national championship in '01 and '04... giving them a total of 2 NCAA national titles for indoor track. But neither the LSU men's or women's track team has won a single NCAA championship since 2004... that was three years ago. I knew about LSU's women track team having the domination that they had in past years, and I knew the LSU's men track team was pretty good for national standards, but track and field has a lot of different events, right? When I watch the Olympics, I've always been fascinated by the sprint events, especially the 100 yard dash. What I'd like to know if anybody knows if LSU has ever been dominant in the specific track and field event of sprints, such as the 100 yard dash, like we dominated this year in both womens and mens track. Is this a milestone in LSU history? In NCAA history? In other words, has LSU's men and/or women track team ever featured a better stable of sprinters than we feature this year? Has any track team in NCAA history featured a better stable of sprinters than we have this year at LSU? Also, does anybody know if LSU's men and/or women track teams have a shot at the national title that none of our overall track teams (womens or men, indoor or outdoor) has won since 2004?
Don't know much about track but I do know one of our very successful Tigers is hot... Lolo Jones View attachment 11026 View attachment 11027 YouTube - Women's 60meter Hurdles - USA National Indoor Championships
I found this NCAA.com webpage that lists both the LSU men's and women's outdoor track teams at #1 in the USA. Outdoor Track and Field Rankings - NCAA.com Regarding indoor track, the LSU men are ranked at #4 and the LSU women are ranked at #2 (Arizona State is #1 in both the men's and women's indoor rankings). In those pics, she also seems very, very happy... like she is on top of the world. She is from Iowa. Nice getting her down here to Baton Rouge. However, she is no longer with LSU, she has graduated LSU and has since moved on to a professional track career (her biggest accomplishment as a professional so far was winning the 2008 World Indoor Championship for the 60m hurdles in Valencia, Spain). While at LSU, she was one of the best in NCAA history at the 60m hurdles and the 100m hurdles. She also succeeded for LSU in other events, including the the 4X100m and the 60m dash (she was an 11-time All-American for LSU women's track and field team). I like how a website devoted to her, Lolo Jones Webpage, plays the "Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets" song. Nice that she wanted to play for LSU!
