I was at the game last night and here is what I saw. Southern is the worst college basketball team I have ever seen. A quality team would beat them by 50 with a stall in the last 10 minutes. We won by 21. I am not ready to throw Richardson out yet, but the offense looked really bad last night. It was really hard to figure out what type of team we are trying to be. Our big men could not dominate the low post, and kicked it out too much (that's really effective if the defender has to respect the inside game--our opponents won't) The idea that this team will come together during the SEC regular season is extremely naive. We're looking at 4 wins in the SEC, tops. I'll still support them, but last night was brutal. The Advocate saying there were 6700 in attendance is a joke. At most, there were 700. It's a long way from the Deaf Dome days (though, to be fair school was out and the game was up against the Saints on MNF). GEAUX TIGERS
by 3 florida teams i hope you dont mean in the sec cause i only thought there was 1 florida team in the SEC. And you if are talking florida's championships teams, you are still confused cause they only won 2.
two different teams. should we off lost, hell no. but things like that happen when you have young players playing together for the first team. I have come to realize that some folks on those board are not happy unless they have something to b!t(# about. During all sports seasons. Some also have expectations that can never be lived up too and have no patience.
My bad then, the 2 championship teams that Florida produced. Which, I know I know, was pretty much the same squad. I stick by what I said though, and I know it hurts all you die hard LSU basketball fans feelings and everything.... But unless you were born and raised with purple and gold flowing through your veins, if you are a superstar, why in the hell would you come to play at LSU? This basketball team lost 20 games last year. And this year has already lost to Nichols, Coastal Carolina who has never beaten and D1 team, and UNT. I haven't smoked in a week, I may be feeling residual effects, but the the most stoned person on the planet can take a look at the past 2 seasons and tell you that LSU basketball just flat out sucks. Starting to sound like everyone sounded when Brady was here, next year's gonna be the year baby, I can feel it!!! I will gladly eat my words if I am wrong, but I don't think I am....
Shaq, Big Baby, Tyrus Thomas, Anthony Randolf, Brandon Bass, Marcus Thronton, Garrett Temple, Chris Johnson, Darnell Lazarre, Tasmin Mitchell. The program puts players into professional basketball. You would be hard pressed to find any program with that many kids in the NBA and D league. Have you paid attention. Nicholls, UNT and Coastal Carolina are pretty good teams. They all have have good chances to make the NCAA tournament this year. And Coastal Carolina has beaten hundreds of D-1 opponents including North Carolina and Duke. And two seasons ago the LSU basketball team under Johnson won the SEC and was the only team to even come close to giving UNC a game in the NCAAs.
I don't follow basketball very much, but I think you're missing one basic point. Johnson is not going after the "superstars;" those players who would only be at LSU for one or two years and then go pro. He is going after the good solid player that, might or might not have a pro career, but who will remain in school for the full term. If I understand it right, that means it will take more time to rebuild the program, because he will not have that one player who can win games almost by himself, but once he has done so, there will be more continuity and stability from one year to the next.
Ok, so I can't find where Coastal Carolina has ever beaten Duke or UNC. Maybe they have beaten D1 teams, I swear I heard a stat on the radio after that happened, that said they didn't, but after some research, it seems that what I probably heard was that they haven't beaten an SEC team in 17 years. Now as far as Shaq, Chris Jackson, Stanley Roberts, (Vernel Singleton was my favorite of all time), Bass, Tyrus, Baby, Stro, .... We are talking Brady and Brown. And the big names Brady got, most were local kids. And TJ didn't recruit Marcus Thornton, and Garrett Temple would have gone to LSU if Duke and North Carolina would have offered him. LSU just isn't a top job in college basketball. Now like I said, if some mega talented local crop of kids comes through then I think TJ will have a chance being that he doesn't go for the 1 and done players, but come on.....Did Brady ever lose 20 games in a season? I can't remember... Maybe he did, I don't know. When was the last time LSU lost to Nichols? I appreciate the fact that you support the basketball team, and I want them to win also, but lets face it, they suck. And who knows, maybe in 2 years they will compete in the SEC, but I doubt it. We will see though, I hope I am wrong, but unless you have a really good crystal ball, or a Delorean that goes 88 mph with a flux capacitor, you don't either..
If the previous two coaches could recruit why would the current coach? He has already inked several 4 star players, and has a 5 star inked for the class of 2011. I agree LSU can't draw in five 5 star guys a year like a Kentucky or Duke can, but we can don't have to. It doesn't take McDonald's All-Americans to make NCAA tournament runs on a consistent basis. See Butler and Gonzaga. Well neither are most of the others, that doesn't mean we can have a solid program. Butler is not a top flight job, but they have been one of the best programs of the last decade. Trent is going for a long term build. I'd like to give him the time to implement his plan and see if it works. You are talking about the guy who signed the best kids in Alabama and Mississippi last year, and inked the best kid in Mississippi again for next year. He is bringing in the best players in the region. He is also in the hunt for some big time 2012 guys like Ricardo Gathers. No but he lost 15 or more pretty regularly. Dale Brown lost 20 once or twice. When was the last time Nicholls was as good as they are this year. Gene Simmons and Emil Joller were probably still playing there. I'll bet a dollar to a donut this year's team is on an upward swing by year's end, I'll go double to nothing that they are in the NCAA tournament next year. If you really want to stretch this out I'll bet they make 7 of the next ten NCAA tournies.
I gotta hand it to you, not only are you really hard to win an argument against, you are extremely confident.... 7 out of the next 10????
I remember the early Brown years - those teams were sad. Then he got Higgs and things got better. Rudy, Scales, Green, etc. followed. It took a while but he got us into a couple of final 4s. Leave coach Johnson alone and let him do his thing and we'll be pushing K'tuck again. I have a clear head!
