Jesus ... he has had two recruiting classes, one of which he essentially punted on. Stringer, Turner, Dotson, etc. haven't even been on campus long enough to know if they are good or not. Give the man time, he doesn't recruit NBA-ready prospects, he prefers system guys. It's not flashy, but you give it time and it will work.
I didn't say fire the dude. all I said is that he hasn't gotten any good players and I don't know if he can recruit at LSU. Do you know otherwise?
To be short, I disagree. In his first recruiting class there wasn't much out there. He managed to sign the top player in LA and Aaron Dotson who was a 4*. He also signed Transfer Malcolm White who looks like he may be starting to tuen on after shaking off some rust. In his second class (10) he signed the top player in LA, MS, and AL as well as Jalen Courtney and KC Ross-Miller, and Transfer Justin Hamilton a proven Big XII contributer. KC failed to get throught the clearinghouse, but still not a bag class. For his third class (11) he signed 5* Johnny O'Bryant, and the best player in LA, John Issac. If you ask some around here they say Issac is a steal and was underrecruited because of injury.
I don't disagree with you, but lets see how these guys pan out. I'm not bangin on Trent, I just don't think LSU basketball is a very attractive place right now...
Why not? Top of the line new facilities, a coach who has built successful programs at his last two stops and put a bunch of kids in the NBA, pretty good basketball tradition, the Cox Center for Student Atheletes. We may not be able to pull the John Walls of the world in, but that isn't what Trent is trying to do anyway.
It's just not. The SEC isn't known as a basketball conference. Take out the 3 Florida teams, and what do you have? Add that to the fact that unless you are Kentucky, you rarely get TV time, there is never a home crowd... Regardless of the facilities, or the Baton Rouge kids that John Brady was able to pull. Now, if there is some super crop of hometown kids again, then maybe he will be able to pull something off, but I doubt it. Like I said, I'm not knocking the guy...well, maybe a little because he won't go after the 1 and done kids, but I think he has been given an pretty huge mountain to scale.....
I hope so. LSU has had a bad run lately of NBA players who play for 1 or 2 years and then then leave LSU thin and a scholarship short.
The whole conference was struggling with this earlier in the decade. Lots of kids leaving before they were ready (Brandon Bass, Jermario Davidson, Randolph Morris, etc.) and it really crippled the conference for a while. Other than Calipari the Greasebucket, no other SEC coach can make national noise relying solely on blue chip freshmen. Not to mention it kills you in the academic performance report. I think Trent's track record at his previous jobs provides sufficient evidence that his philosophy eventually pays off.
??? He has some good players now. Just need to learn to play together. Davis, Thomas, Temple, Thornton, etc didn't come out smoking initially. Give them some time.
did you smoke some really good stuff right bfor you wrote that????? Have you not seen the recruits he brought in already and the ones coming in?????
