Johnson Recaps 2011-12 Men's Basketball Season - LSUsports.net - The Official Web Site of LSU Tigers Athletics I really liked what he had to say about his players and his program. He doesn't make any excuses and knows what he has to get and where this program needs to go to stay competitive in this league.
Wow, are Trent Johnson and Les Miles polar opposites, or what? It sounds like he knows exactly what he needs to do. I believe him; I think the program is at a point where the team will continue to improve each year until we are competing for the SEC.
Not sure what you are referring to. He made a point about staggering the classes, so I take that to mean that he intends to take 3 players in most classes. If two of the three are as talented as Hickey and O'Bryant, then yes. Malik Morgan is one... Did you read the article?
Tigerrag's take Wow, looking at this thread and the comments, did someone hijack the same guys that were posting earlier in the week? Deek? You sold on CTJ now? I guess istsl needed to be him though. Seriously, after reading this, you just got to love a coach that's been there done that and shoots straight. I remember some of the post-game/season stuff that you'd read with Brady and just scratch your head like, huh? I know this will draw ire from many of the CTJ haters, but I couldn't help but read some of the quotes and think to myself, that was a "saban-esque" comment. The part about process, the grind. That's professional coach speak and true. There's a reason why you look at his record at Nevada and Stanford and see consistent progress. He's not just trying to overnight create havoc in a program, recruit questionable recruits and say what folks want to hear. He's just trying to develop a program, instill a good culture, recruit the right kind of kids and leave the men with something after 4 years of substance. The bit about Warren and White and Bass got me. We so often forget that these are student athletes. They should be getting an education, and developing their talents. You don't think that Brandon Bass respects what Trent did with his brother? Man, that's just an unsaid part of being a college coach, but probably one of the most important ones. You obviously have to look at the recruiting piece, and hope that indeed, Trent talks the talk but can walk the walk. Yes, he's finally got a model of staggered classes, and striving to sign 3-4 good quality recruits every year. That, frankly, was what Brady and Butch could not do, and that's what led to LSU's inconsistency. It starts this weekend with Shavon Coleman visiting, and I certainly hope, again, that recruits see the substance of CTJ and his program, rather than the "noise" that is LSU fans who don't really appreciate basketball sometimes. Speaking of which... Tigerrag's recap sort of takes a whack at some other items that the LSUSports reporter didn't. I took away from this some interesting quotes. One piece is that perhaps there may be some change on the coaching staff (Coach Donny G) and another is, to all of those folks that talk about LSU fan-speak or attitudes not affecting recruiting, take a look at Trent's quote. Fan support and hoops atmosphere does make a difference in the minds of recruits. Good thing is, Trent is a smart man, and has a good retort. First time I've ever heard LSU fans compared to the finicky fans in NY or Chicago, but I suppose that's the heart of it. When you have national championship caliber programs, you sort of expect more. The good news is, I do believe Trent can continue to build this program to get there. Now, he has to convince some recruits of the same thing. I think it's about time the LSU fans help do the same. TigerRag - Johnson wraps up 2011-12 season
Tell me about it. I read 2 or 3 references to process and wanted to run for the hills. He really did make an excellent point there.
I agree with you guys . I never really read anything this good about revealing how and what Trent Johnson is thinking. Has anyone read anything like this or was it just me that missed it? The only thing I had to go on before this was his brief comments after some of the games about that night's play, the box scores and the won-lost record. Maybe coach Johnson needs to be more of a spokesman and communicate better with the fan base.
No. I'm not sold. I just wanted to post that I appreciate his candor and honesty, and it's refreshing.
