I like it, too. His teams play an up tempo style the fans should appreciate, he'll recruit well, will have the alumni base behind him...I think LSU basketball will return to its earlier success.
At least Johnny Jones really is a tiger who wants to be here. I think he'll be very much in the Dale Brown mode who will : 1)communicate with and energize the fanbase as well as... 2)make many inroads to the high schools and AAU programs in recruiting. Those were Trent Johnson's two major downfalls.
I just hope the fan base will give Jones the time he needs. Trent never got a chance. Even though I don't like this hire, I will be in the Pmac.
Well, all I'll say is all hail Johnny Jones. Seriously though, as I said once and I'll say it again. I'll support the coach whoever he is. At the end of the day, how much of this was JJones was the best "fit" or how much was he the only candidate left standing who actually wanted the LSU job? Whatever it was, maybe it was a little bit of both. Like I've learned to do... we must "distill" much of the Bayou fan "noise". Many will say that Jones was not good enough of a coach in the Sun Belt (although I'll be the first to admit that he brought little ole North Texas out of bball obscurity). Others will penalize him for the Earl situation (NCAA ultimately cleared him and Earl admitted to lying). In the end, I'll sum it up in one word... LSU hired JJones because of.... PASSION. Here's a guy who wants to be at LSU when likely Alleva was turned down by handfuls of candidates. Moreover, he's a hometown boy who knows ball on the Bayou. Which frankly is the 180 degrees we needed from the last coach. Passion in the program, passion in LSU, passion in recruiting to LSU (both players and fans). Welcome home Johnny Jones!
