He better be looking at an exit plan, because it's looking more and more like his days at LSU are numbered. He has been a complete failure to this point.

Bring back Dale Brown for one year and give LSU time to find a coach after a year long search. Alleva has to do something to get the fans back in the game.

Maybe we can get a good coach now and then build a good program. That would be pretty nice.

At the moment the TCU job appears to be a done deal. Announcement supposedly forthcoming on Monday. Alleva is even acknowledging that there's been contact with Trent, so it seems highly probable now

Trent Johnson wasn't a good fit with the fans. He never connected with the fans well at all. In the face of an empty PMAC and an aloof fanbase, it was remarkable that he recruited as well as he did. (Hickey, O'Bryannt).

But make no mistake this really hurts. We can kiss this crucial year of recruiting goodbye...and I doubt LSU will be able to attract any decent type of head coach at all. The fans that haven't deserted the program are totally impatient.

This is a hire that could eventually determine Alleva's future at LSU.

Trent was pinning his hopes on grabbing 2-3 kids in the late signing period. The most crucial one never even took an official visit to campus and he had no actual commitments from anyone. So I'm not sure how much worse it could have gotten from a recruiting standpoint this year.

Assuming the deal is done, the timing both helps and hurts us. TCU is bailing us out of having to buy out the remaining two years on Trent's contract if he stuck around for the 2012-13 season. The flip side is the chances of attracting a high-caliber coach at this point don't seem to be very good. Since this will be a crucial hire for Alleva, I wonder if it wouldn't be a good option to name an interim coach for this season while we take the time to get the hire right. It probably wouldn't do much to encourage Hickey or O'Bryant to stay after next season, but that was hardly a sure thing anyway.
