There were several interesting quotes attributed to Josh Henson, LSU's recruiting coordinator. "In this year's group of players, there are more top-end impact players," "There's just not as much depth as there was in last year's class. Overall, I think the state talent level is about normal. There are some really good players, around 10 to 12 of them. It's about average for Louisiana. But I think the last two years have been a little better." His comments go against what many on this and other boards have been saying about our banner recruiting in-state talent this year. I think this in part was started by the abundance of high profile RB's available this year, but we can't sign them all-- Ford, Lacy, Conner, etc. The article also said we expect to sign 18 to 20 players, but that statement was not attributed to Henson directly. In recent years we have signed an average of about 9 or 10 boys from LA and I think based on Henson's comments that trend continues this year. Comments?
This reflects conflicts in evaluations between our coaching staff and various "recruiting experts". Obviously, the rb/wr positions are flashier and of course touchdowns get more print. I don't know if La. has ever been evaluated accurately but I imagine that will change. Every year, as LSU continues to win games, you hear the pundits talking about how LSU has as much, or more talent than anyone in the country. It seems to reflect that on the field, but our recruiting rankings don't always match up. It's not much to get upset about. Miles has never been accused of being a poor recruiter in any place he has worked, so I think we are probably safe regardless of what we read in the press. And apparently even in years when the talent level is "down", we still pull plenty of out of state recruits to balance out the roster.
Agreed. Talent was "down" last year and it was pound for pound our best class ever all things considered when it comes to fulfilling needs.
More high-profile guys this year & somewhat a lack of them last year - that's the main reason people thought last year was down & this year was going to be amazing. There's also been several players this year who were overrated by fans - guys that looked like top D1 talent but will not be.
:geaux::crystal::helmet: Agree as well. I thought last years class was outstanding top to bottom, but especially when it came to the fullfilling needs category as mentioned above. Coach Miles and his staff did a terrific job with recruiting last year and of course are continuing that trend with the current crop of recruits. As far as rankings and "experts" go, I though last years class was way underated. Only one service, as we know, had the class in the top five. But as stated in prevous posts, LSU's talent is always ranked at the top compared to other programs, so rankings by the "guru's" can be taken with a grain of salt. As for this years in-state talent I don't it's a great year in La., but if LSU gets all the in-state kids they want it'll add up to a top five class and another year of "reloading"! What's really impressive though is how great the coaching staff is doing with bringing in out-of-state talent. All of them are high level recruits and insure LSU will be a player on the National scene for years to come!! :geauxtige:champs::LSU231:
