I'm not gonna get in a pissing contest with you over the great Pete Carrol but yes losing to Standford with the team USC has was IMO a knock to his greatness. It shows he is human not some super coach that alot of the country portrays him as. The guy sits in a hot bed of talent at a storied program but HE brought it back to it's glory. I do give him credit for that! You misunderstood my comment, if CLM had lost a game like that he would be an even bigger idiot in the medias mind. I think some coaches get free passes because of the program they are at or a big win they had 4 or 5 years ago when others get hammered.
My point was that JT has been outcoached before...I was trying to illustrate that even if all LSU fans would concede grin: ) that JT is a better coach than LM, LM would still have the ability to out-coach him for a 3 hour window...or even for a 1 hour window. Mack Brown is John Cooper, so I don't think he's a great coach. It's too bad you guys have to defend your coach against an article like that...I re-read it this morning and it's astounding that someone allowed it to be published. It looks more like an Alabama fan's blog than a journalistic article from a national media organization. I agree with the result he predicts, but the method to get there is idiocy at its best. The guy should be fired.
that's what i'm sayin... momentum, motivation, and underestimation are 3 of the biggest intangible factors in college football. i, as a fan don't need respect from the media unless it's voting time. i don't need miles to be painted as a genius as long as he gets the "W". it's to a tiger's advantage when his opponent thinks him a kitten.
I agree that CLM has done a great job and no you shouldn't have to defend him. I replied to a post saying that PC is only a good recruiter, and not a good coach. PC has lost 14 in 7 years by a total of 59 and only one of those by more than a TD. His success at USC is more than smoke and mirrors and media support. I do remember an awful lot of posts on this forum ripping CLM the same way the media is and asking many of the same questions. I hope if the unexpected happens and LSU loses, that CLM continues to get the same kind of love he's getting here now.
Me too!!!:milesmic: Funny how some think that the Big 10 3-4 record is respectable...If the SEC was 3-4 we wouldn't be hearing the end of it...I guess that by Monday night it will be a very decent 3-5...That's funny!!! I just don't know how many of us here would go to a communist's house and expect them to talk about how great capitalism is and then end up getting mad when he talks about spreading the wealth...I decided to go to his house, so I have to take it like a man.:hihi: I thought about maybe going to an OSU board, but then I remembered that throughout the season many OSU fans disrespecting LSU, CLM, and Dorsey and making such a big deal about the Big 10-SEC rivalry...I decided that it was pointless to have a normal conversation with somebody from up north...It must be a cultural thing.
Since Washington was a top team in 1991, no other PAC 10 team, other than USC, has been a national contender. Meanwhile, since 1991, the SEC has won 5 national championships. (along with Auburn in 2004 :cry The Big 12 has won 5 as well. The media talking heads see the potential for a major college football revenue decline on the west coast if USC isn't over-hyped on a fairly regular basis. :geauxtige
Honestly Im glad to see some of these articles. I for one feel that OSU proved last year that they buy into hype. As far as Im concerened let every sportswriter pick OSU. The predictions mean nothing until the game is played. Second, these articles make for sweet, sweet retribution. He lost plently of credibility by saying that we (as well as OSU) are behind USC and UGA. Nobody one this planet can say who is looking the best right now until all of the games are played. So what happens to this guy if we show up and play like we did (and are prapared for) Virginia Tech? What if not only do we play that well, but Miles totally outcoaches Tressel? He might just suffer more humiliation than Herbstreit did last year. I for one will wait to see the game played. Not because Im going to side with this "writer" if we lose, no. Because can you imagine a more humiliating defeat for a writer that makes the claim that Miles "cannot defeat Tressel" (sort of like UF 'could not defeat OSU')? That is poetic justice. And for the record Les, you dont look stupid, you just look truely excited about LSU football, and there is nothing wrong with that. On a side note, I despise this arogant, insulting bit of "humorous writing" towards pretty much any coach, not just Les. I would just assume to wait let this guy get completely humiliated.
I wish I was dumb enough to make millions of dollars a year instead of being some smuck at a newspaper. :tigereye:
It's no secret on this board that I'm a huge fan of Les Miles. I am a fan of his today, and I will be a fan of his @ midnight tomorrow, regardless of the outcome of the game. Now, some on this board will roast him like a pig on a spit before the Arkansas game if we lose, but it shouldn't discount his record @ LSU--any more than Tressel's loss last year should overshadow his record. I don't think the Coach Miles looks like a dweeb, dork, nerd, or simplistic moron. He looks like a football coach. Nick Saban? Bob Stoops? Please... This column was incredibly irresponsible, and I hate to see something like this get published, and I hate to see this guy get paid for writing such libelous tripe.
