Well hey, don't be too optimistic Bammers. Remember Saban is good for one loss a year to a team that has no business being on the field with his team. Plus, if Ole Miss was able to go into Florida and come away with a win, you can't be certain of anything. One thing you can be certain of, AU will be pumped and ready to go for the Iron Bowl, and TT will have about 8 weeks to cement his offensive gameplan and find something that works. Its way too early to count AU out of that game IMO. to be the best you have to beat the best. You can't be the best in your state till you come away with that win, and Auburn won't make it easy on you. They'll be playing with a chip on their shoulder the rest of the year
If anybody shouldn't get "too optimistic" I think it's the team with the most instability and turmoil in its program right now. Georgia played with a "chip on their shoulder" to during the "black out" and we see how well that turned out for them.
To be honest Georgia bought into the hype. they had a pre-season parade because they opened in the polls as #1. I and most everyone expected that team to fall hard. If you want to to chalk a win now, go ahead, but I'm not buying it
And if awbrin "buys into the hype" of the current streak the same thing will happen to them, and I'm not chalking anything up and haven't been all year. But I'm dang sure not going to waive the white flag before the game is even played because of a statistic or because of an assumed emotional state of a team like "They'll be playing with a chip on their shoulder." That crap don't mean a damn thing when the ball is kicked off, again see Georgia. Every year and every game is a new game with its own set of circumstances. We won the NC in 1992, how many have we won since? Don't bother looking for any fingers to put up because you don't need any. So "past peformances" such as awbrin's current streak will not help them block, will not improve their talent level nor improve the technical skills of their current qb's in the 2008 Iron Bowl. What will lose or win them the game is any variables that exist on the field and on the practice field. If they don't prepare and execute those "six fingers" won't help them any.
lol My post has absolutely nothing to do with any fingers, or any white flags. I seriously doubt Auburn is going to be buying into any hype after they dropped one to Vandy. They already have 2 looses on the season, and by no means are they going to be raising their white either, they already fired their OC I'm pretty sure if they get another loss then they'll be playing for Tub's job. I'm not asking you to admit defeat more than a month before the game that would be retarded. Streaks mean nothing, Boston won a world series, the Saints won a playoff game, and we beat AU in AU. But to chalk up a win against a heated rival more than a month before the game against a heated in state rival?? Thats arrogance at its highest. My previous posts are implying that its too early to pass the torch to Bama, till Bama can beat them if they do then thats fine. To be honest the torch has to be the State Championship of college football of alabama.
I totally agree. Can't brag if you're getting beat. I don't think any Bama fans are chalking up a win this early (or the majority at least).
I have a question for you Buzzard. I am curious if you can give me an opinion on the reaction of the rest of bama nation and not just you(you are way too level headed). Considering that Saban, you and others have commented about being thin at several positions, and considering the elevated expectations as a result of having a year much better than many bama fans predicted(most said 7-9 wins at the most), what will happen if you guys start to tank? It could be for any reason; injury, lack of focus, lack of preparation, or just bad bounces. I am not claiming you will, but curious how fans might react if you do. I think injuries or just plain being worn out could be a factor as you go down the stretch. I ask because of the dive you guys took last year, and the quick turnaround this year. Two polar opposites. Have the majority of bama fans learned to temper their expectations as you seem to have done? For what it's worth, I think an alarming number of LSU fans have a short(or non-existent) memory of what disappointment really can feel like. I know eventually we will fall out of the top 10, and I shudder at how our average fans will act.
Yes and no. I think 'Bama is on the up while Auburn is definitely on the down (and in panic mode) but passed the torch. . .not yet. I'm still of the firm belief that 'Bama is overrated, THIS YEAR. I think the true torch passing will happen next year, when Saban's players have had a little more time to develop.
Good and tough question. My basis would have to be off of "internet Bama fans" and the Bama fans I interact with personally. I would be purely guessing of those that never touch a message board and I do not come in contact with. I'll give it a go anyway. By tanking if you mean lose 5 of our last 6 and end up 7-5 I would say there would be an immediate knee jerk reaction of people being pissed off and sitting in sack cloth and ash for a week or two. But I really don't think anybody would be calling for Saban's head. A LOT of Bama fans know we're not suppose to be doing this well this year. But with the 6-0 start and what the young guys (Julio, Mark Ingram, Donta Hightower, etc.) have shown on the field so far, a lot of the "excitement" you see is really for what the future holds and not necessarily the here and now. But the further we get in to the season and us continuing to win and stay among the top ten that "future excitement" is gearing more toward 2008 SEC Title excitement and rightfully so. Hell, until we are mathematically eliminated from the chase why not get excited? But again, I don't think if we ended up with only seven wins you'd see people cleaning out offices unless Saban fired some assistants which is pretty normal for him. I THINK a lot of Bama fans understand we still have some depth issues that could very well cost us some games and the youth issue is also another one that has yet to burn us.
