Not trying to be contrarian but do you have a link to a report or study on this or is this anecdotal? I haven't heard of this being an issue.
Actually part of it is Muslims. Or Imam's. Here is the link I got this info from. Provide spiritual or religious guidance to inmates or serve as an Imam. http://www.bayoubuzz.com/buzz/lates...th-care-hurt-by-unnecessary-state-contracting
I have read it in news stories several times over the years.. I would be very much against providing mooslem holy rollers but spiritual counseling could be a good idea for those of other faiths if it leads them away from violence and possible rehabilitation. No matter what your beliefs are you have to agree that anything that can help make a better person out of some convicts is worth $123K. Much better than spending $6.8 million for commercials with Hooty, the anti-pollution owl; or this one: Paying somebody $10, 000 to watch chimpanzees ontract #681869; "State sponsorship of Chimpanzee Discovery Days, involving broad media attention to observation of chimpanzees in a spacious forestry habitat;" $10,000; DWF $94K to teach children how to play at recess
Not wanting to blow open another can of worms BUT; is it me or does Louisiana seem to have an overabundance of colleges and universities. Does anyone know what these cost? Are there consolidations possible that make sense? Or is the current status about right for the needs of the state? Or is this way to hot a topic?
In principal I don't disagree. However, every prisoner who sits in front of a parole board claims they've found Jesus and about 2% are being honest. It's a great question. I don't know if there is a right answer.
yes and we are top 5 state workers per capita. cops, fire dept, corrections. many make much more than humble servants. plus we have way too many for what they provide. and yes every prisoner finds god and a law book.
