OK. Then just name one. Just one significant cut that can be made. It is easy to say cut the waste. It is difficult to find any waste to cut that Jindal has not already cut.

I find it interesting that the treasurer says that there are too many state contracts. Well, the republican legislature has been privatizing state government for decades. That means more government contracts to business. Reducing state contracts means increasing state employees to do the work. One comes with pension obligations and the other comes with fat profits for corporations. Either way the state must pay if it expects to get things done.

Or you could just not do it at all.

Contract # 708691 - inform Hispanics in Rapides and Natchitoches Parish how to use seat belts. $54,000
Contract # 613917 - statewide multimedia awareness campaign on the effects of litter $6,800,000
    Contract # 702019 - provide spiritual guidance for inmates - $126,400

I could go on there are a lot more. Why do we need to spend money on this shit? Why hasn't anyone stepped up and talk about Marijuana legalization?

Do we really need to educate Hispanics on seat belts? Do we really need to give prisoners a religious guide? Infrastructure I get. That has to be done. What I'm saying is there is a lot of shit that isn't needed period, by independent or public contract.

From the article, we've been cutting back for years. It's good to cut back but isn't the only answer.

I agree, you have to raise revenue as well that's why I offered my Marijuana legalization plan as a source. :)

Also prisons. We spend 31k per year per prisoner. That's way more than students. Something is really wrong with this. Did you know that Louisiana has the highest prison rate in the world? We lock more people up per capita than Iran and China.

Yeah, I've heard that before. Legalizing and taxing weed would kill two birds with one stone.

That's what we do, we don't spend money on our kids, but hey, they can get that money spent on them when they get arrested later in life. And people wonder why we regularly rank near the bottom in education in the US every year.

On the surface spending money on religious guidance for prisoners seems a waste but there is a lot of Muslim recruiting going on in prisons so if we can sway any prisoners away from that its money well spent.
