SNAP is federally funded so while the work requirement was a good move and he shouldn't have overturned the decision, it has zero affect on the budget.

Sure it does, at least somewhat. It makes free-loaders get off of welfare and get a job and pay taxes.

I already agreed it was the wrong move but you're kidding yourself if you think 30k people working 20 hours a week at minimum wage is going to increase income tax revenue. It's an important issue but one that has no bearing on the TOPS cuts.

I get it. I've gone and read more since posting that and see where he's proposing several things to address the problem he inherited. Hiring freeze across state government, $160 mill in government spending cuts, some rain day fund and some BP money too. I'm okay the tobacco tax but not so crazy about the alcohol one, BUT, in Louisiana an alcohol tax should generate a lot with as much as our citizens like to indulge.

How in the hell did a Republican Gov and Rep legislature let our finances get so out of wack.

Jindal was so concerned about lowering taxes so he could build his resume for the white house that he didn't care what happened. It's a mess. Vitter would have raised taxes too. No choice.

As a parent who will be paying tuition for 2 kids next year, and for the following 4 years, my mind is reeling. We saved for college, but life got in the way and we did not plan on med school.

This mother fucker campaigned on protecting higher education. He even had the gall to prostitute his wife by putting her on tv as a 20 year educator and promise that there was no way he would cut higher ed. Fuck you JBE. You are a lying cunt who said anything to get elected.

You didn't know how bad it was? WTF are you saying? You were a god damned legislator, how could you not know? I sat down with a newly elected state rep last week. She has only been sworn in for 3 weeks and she knows more than you. You are a lying sack of shit.

What about all of these constitutionally protected budget items? Are they more important than the healthcare of this state? Are they more important than they future of this state's children? You want me to radically change my budget while you keep spending. You're a piece of shit.

Oh, by the way, the state is 3 weeks behind on paying me for contract work I did for them. Amazing. I did the work under his administration, and he said oops, sorry, we can't pay you.

You can't pay me and you can't pay what you promised my kids. You are the worst excuse for a politician I have ever seen. You have NO guilt what so ever fucking tax paying people like me as long as you got elected. Fuck you I hope you die.

Yep, he's a liar. We only elect liars. I voted for JBE but I knew this was coming. I almost wanted Vitter to win to see how he handled this. Really, the blame is on Jindal. Even Vitter would have raised taxes.

Unfortunately, regardless of what John Kennedy says, we can't just change the constitution and we certainly can't do it by June. I'm sure this needs to be looked at but Jindal kicked the can down the road for so long that there is no money anywhere left to raid. Or not enough anyway.

That's fucked up. You pay your bills, period. not only that, it will affect our credit rating. Having said all of that, do you generally get paid within 3 weeks. I would have thought the state would take 3 months to pay.

I don't think TOPS is going away for good. He was over the top last night saying we would lose football etc. He's trying to scare everyone because I think he knows the fight he's up against and unfortunately, no one has come up with a solution for the budget issues. Not even Kennedy. His proposals either don't amount to a hill of beans money wise or are things that would take years to accomplish. When JBE doesn't get cooperation, he wants to come back to this speech and say, "see, I told you so". He absolutely knew how bad things were. Everyone should have. This was clearly coming no matter who was elected. Be mad at Jindal. All of this is on him. I still think he'll do the right thing and get this figured out but there will be short term pain for everyone. There's just no way around it.

By the way, I'm not dismissing how angry you are but hang tight for a bit. TOPS isn't going away permanently in my opinion. He's just trying to get a rise out of everyone.
