I think them scrapping the offense and going back to what they've been doing will definitely help them get better in the short term. But I wonder about his 2009 recruiting class that tubbs said was basically "filled up" and from my understanding the class is filled with players to fit the offense he just scrapped. A lot of instability on the plains right now and trust me (from a fan of a program that has seen it first hand) changing an offensive system during a season ain't the fix all to the problem.
I agree, short term it may help, but firing a coordinator mid season is always a setback, either in recruiting, morale, etc.
It hurts on the recruiting trail the most. Recruits can sense instability and will run like a pack of wolves after a three legged dawg to get away. The quicker the sense of instability is fixed the better but this may scare a lot of recruits they want away.
No, I am just a full supporter of I and Ace formations in real life. I like seeing an offset fullback on a run play. (In NCAA I actually use the shotgun a lot because it works there) But Crowton didn't change the offense completely when he arrived. He created a best of both worlds.
So Tubs has to cancel a few huntin/fishin trips this fall and shore up his recruiting now? :hihi: Changing OC will damage recruiting to be sure, but as much as tanking in your games? Only notre dame can lose all of it's games and still recruit well.
Honestly I think they'll be fine. They'll may experience a bit of a hit in the 2009 recruiting but nothing for them to worry about, especially if they quickly replace Franklin after the season. Sure, tubs will have to miss a few hunting and fishing trips but he'll survive.
