http://www.oanow.com/oan/news/local/article/franklin_fired_as_auburn_offensive_coordinator/40169/ Key word is that it is from a source... But if true, it looks like Tuberville is trying to cover his ass.
I just saw this. Un-freaking-believable. The Auburn offense has been abysmal, but has everyone forgotten that it takes longer than 6 games to implement an offense? especially one as fundamentally different as the spread? I don't get it.
Tony Franklin fired? Nothing official yet, but Finebaum is reporting that Aubun has fired spread offense genuis Tony Franklin. Anyone else heard anything?
Re: Tony Franklin fired? End of the Spread Eagle? It really isn't Franklin's fault that The Tube hired a OC to install an offense that he didn't have the players to run. But they have been talking about Tubervilles head on the AU board. He knew it was dump Franklin or be on the hot seat himself. This quick execution will kill recruiting for them and may make it hard to recruit assistant coaches, too.
The Tube is smart. He's not going down the Dinardo highway and get fired for being too loyal to assistants who are not getting the job done. Then again . . . this is Auburn and it was probably a Bobby Lowder thing.
Truth is, if they scrap a system they are ill suited to(OLine specifically), they may improve dramatically without even having a new OC. Auburn has always run the ball so strong, it has been really strange watching them this year. It would also help us(SOS) in the long run if Auburn wins the rest of their games.
