And FWIW, what I'm talking about with the Cole Tracy offensive approach, he gets tight and coaches like a pussy when he knows he has 3 easy points. Go for the TD more and try to win that damn game. Settling for FGs is ONE of the reason we lost the TAMU game. There were myriad others including officials IMO. But to me, his decision to keep Giles as punt returner was the biggest key to us losing that game. We run out the clock if Mr. Fair Catch simply...catches the damn ball. At least he let the team play and win the bowl game, unlike the previous year when we kicked a friggin FG from the 1 against Notre Dame in Orlando. Pussy ball.
Jefferson is not on the same level as Jeudy but has the best rapport with Burrow. JaMarr Chase just might be on that level before the end of the season. Not much talk here about Terrence Marshall. He was one of the top HS receivers and if he is fully recovered from his injuries he could possibly give us the triple threat at WR that would make the field very difficult to defend.
Ok. But I tend to look at conditioning and strength as two different things. Conditioning isn't the issue, its strength. And I'll admit, I'm mostly thinking about matching up with Bama. It all depends on what your (rhetorical) priorities are. If your priorities are simply as many wins as possible and getting to a good bowl, we're in a good place. If your goal is to win national championships, then its all about getting by Bama, and we will not do that under the current strength program.
Always see comparisons like that, and they're pointless. It doesn't matter who has the better receiver group, its how your receivers match up with my secondary and vice versa.
Juedy is a special WR better than our best but I think we have the overall best and deepest WR group in the SEC.
We don't, unfortunately Bama does and we're probably 2nd. However, as FDF mentioned, it doesn't matter. We have the best DBs in the league and that's who matches up against their WRs. We have a solid DL and FINALLY some real nose tackle play (I'm confident in that although it remains to be seen live), and I think we can actually pressure Tua and anyone else this year. We have to.
The potential is certainly there for that to be true, but they have to be more sure-handed than last year. Too many drops. And i think Terrace Marshall has become an overlooked member of the group. I look for him to be the most improved player on the team this year.
What's the continuing theme here guys? kcal mentions "one's to watch." He also mentions development and there's your first key. I get the excitement over the potential of the receiving corps. On the other hand, when you're looking at Jeudy, Ruggs, Smith, and Waddle it's not about potential anymore. That's proven. Four guys in the top 16 (SEC) in production last year. I'd have to put that at even, maybe. Like I mentioned, I do believe LSU has the edge in the backfield. I don't see an edge in the linebacking corps but with limited exposure to Lewis and Jennings I can see how you might believe that. LSU does not have an edge on the defensive line. Even Shane agrees with that (though his view on QB and RCVR are OUT there.)
Good post, we share the same priority. With that said, I think part of the problem was the type of DL and even LB we had been recruiting prior to Miles' exit. Chavis liked smaller faster front 7 players. O quickly rectified the LB position, probably at Aranda's urgent request. Now the DL is substantially upgraded. The OL lags behind. I'm not sure ANY of this has to do with strength OR conditioning. It has to do more with the lack of quality depth on the lines, and in particular the OL.
You probably think Dylan Moses is great. He peaked in HS. Lotta hype without much results, IMO. Now, about the DL. I didn't say LSU has a better DL. I think it's WAY closer than it used to be. I DO think LSU has the edge at LB. I KNOW LSU has the better DBs this season. So, edge to LSU.
