1. The coaches know how to evaluate decision making in practice. Any quarterback who is playing the best should start. 2. Just because Lee had trouble reading defenses in his freshman year doesn't mean he'll never get better. He still has a very fine arm. 3. If any starter falters, we have other quarterbacks to bring in, unlike earlier last season. Depth is vital in the rough SEC. 4. It is possible that Jefferson could also have a bad year reading defenses. He has not been put through the wringer yet.
Hatch didn't have the physical tools of Jefferson or even Lee. He was looking at a crowded depth chart in '09 with Shepard coming in, and he saw the writing on the wall. So I wouldn't chalk up leaving the team to getting shook up in the Auburn game.
I'm shocked by the Peterson move. Blackwell to center isn't that surprising considering the health of Hebert. If Hebert can't go I guess Les isn't sold on Lonergan. Minter could still wind up at MLB later on. It may be a case of Les wanting an experienced senior, Ace Foyil, as a backup MLB, rather than a freshman. I am pleased to see Jones and Coleman starting at safeties. Hopefully a more simplified system under Chavis will allow them to react, rather than be tentative or in the wrong position. Calhoun is a surprise at CB only because we had heard that he would be initially slated for the offensive side of the ball first. Before that I think most people believed he would be a CB. After seeing his films as a RB I think this is the right position for him. Losing out on Jackson, a future CB, may have also influenced this decision.
Lee looked better in the 1st 20 minutes with no defense but JJ looked better making reads during simulated play. Miles said if the games started today JJ would be the starter. Ciron Black has also said that JJ took strong control over the huddle.
Huh? Chotomate yo. (Japanese = just a minute, you) Looking at the WR depth chart, I see BrandonLaFell (polishing his NFL resume) Terrance Toliver (one L - tiger's high trapeze artist) Chris Mitchell (to start - tough to catch in open field) RRandle (ASAP pls - need the crowd noise) Tim Molton (best route runner - maybe?) Chris Tolliver (great YAC) DeAngelo Peterson - don't forget me coach! I have great hands, too. Aah - you want me to try out being the receiving TE when we're in a two-tightend set? Okay, I'm game. When you're overflowing with top talent at one position, what do you do? Use your imagination OC. Don't just stand there with a broken pencil. Draw up a new blueprint and ALWAYS HAVE A SURPRISE ! :geauxtige :crystal: :crystal: THIS DECADE SO FAR
well that's what i want to see the most. i don't care who starts, as long as they give us the best chance to win. i just want to see the talent developed and utilized. concerning lee, i say give the dude a chance. he was a freshman, and made freshman mistakes. he wasn't ready to play, but that kid put his azz on the line for LSU. it took JR how long to develop? but, i do understand that LSU has TALENT at the QB position. frickin' shep, jefferson, lee and garrett, that is ridiculous. with the offensive talent LSU has, there is NO reason that this team should score less than, say, 21 points a game. defense will be the biggest question mark, and with chavis, we should see an improvement over last season AT LEAST. i thought LSU would have trouble last season, but in 2009 LSU should be in contention for another :crystal:
1. Of course they do, but they would be stupid to not look at the player's performance in games, at least a little bit 2. I never said he wouldn't get better, just saying he's a bigger question mark than jefferson who didn't have decision making issues so he better be much better in practice if he wants the position 3. I agree 100%. 4. I agree 100%. Never said he should be crowned. I just said he played better in pressure games last year and that will make Lee catching him that much more difficult. Last year, neither guy had any experience so if one guy was even slightly better than the other in practice, he was the starter. Not so cut and dry this year. IMO
Some players play better in games than practice, and the opposite is also true. It's a lot different playing in front of 90+K fans. Lee was significantly better in practice than he was in games last year, and he never assumed the leadership role that Jefferson did in just 3 games of his TRUE freshman year.
IMO, this is just to increase the competition at the position until Blackwell can take over one of the gaurd positions - unless of course he really shines at Center. You sure? I read an update that had him as the 2nd string MLB. I'm surprised to see that they started him off at CB. I figured they'd give him a shot at offense first. We'll see, but he could try offense later in Spring.
