offense only scored on 5 possessions. three of which were following turnovers. plus the defense itself scored. that’s 20 of the 34 we scored. i’d say they were less than spectacular too. which is why i said it’s not squarely on either side. both had huge glaring issues that contributed to this loss.
The problem I have is Leach is known for his offense. With everything stacked against our D, while concerning, the implosion is kind of understandable (still, Pelini makes $2.3M/yr...). Leach isn’t a defensive guru, not sure MSU is top 50% in league on D, and we looked glaringly bad. That’s more concerning to me. Explaining away game 1 is possible, but until we see different having concerns is also valid.
Here are some things about the passing game that aren't his fault: - Poor blocking at times - Drops Here's the stuff that worries me, as they seem difficult to fix - His arm seems sub-par. His deep balls come up short, and float, giving defenders time to recover. He underthrows. Many of his passes were not even a spiral. - He holds on to the ball forever. - He lacks the athletic ability to scramble for positive yards, or buy himself some more time to throw. This takes the RPO almost completely off the table.
mb is there for the duration, short of an injury as he gives us the best chance to win. expect big improvement across the board saturday.
And if he plays like that then injury isn't far away. Not wishing harm on the kid but im willing to bet he shit himself on Saturday.
I struggle to think that 27 points is glaringly bad on offense if that’s what you’re saying. The offense did well on some drives, and poor on others. They were inconsistent. But I wouldn’t say they were overall glaringly bad. Leach, on the other hand, repeatedly used the same plays and routes to beat us. Crossing routes are decades old, and he routinely used them to burn us because he knows Bo likes to play man coverage, which is what crossing routes are designed to beat. Bo not switching to zone to stop that is more concerning to me.
