You really think that? 345 yds and 3 TDs? I’ll admit he had a deer in headlights look on a lot of plays, but I can’t say he looked really bad.
The stats say he had a good game. I saw too many over thrown & under thrown balls to wide open receivers.
As usual, the answer is in the middle. He had a good game for his first start. But there’s lots of room for improvement, and I have faith in him if Kyle Trask can do it. The CBs, on the other hand, are deeply concerning. Getting Stingley back will go a long way. Jay Ward can not see the field for more than 5% of snaps for quite a while though or were in trouble.
Ward hadn’t practiced much in last 2 weeks due to being banged up. if we play a more tradition team (i.e. non -air raid) with a healthy Stingley, Ward probably sits this one out to get healthy. I’m not as concerned about him going forward because of that.
That’s exactly what happened. Lasy year I used to SCREAM at TV (I know) to put Brennen in. It was obvious Joe stayed in so long to pad his considerable stats, and he won the Heisman. So it’s a little hard to argue with that strategy. But, more "real" experience for Brennen would have proved helpful this year. In football, as in most of life, the long view is exceedingly difficult to achieve and maintain.
So basically if we play a team that requires fewer CBs on the field then ward won’t play as much? I’m in agreement.
