A player cannot receive a redshirt of any kind (there's only 1 kind) after playing just one snap. What people commonly refer to as a medical redshirt is actually called a medical hardship waiver by the NCAA. Medical hardship waivers are retroactive. A player can apply for a medical hardship waiver for a year in which he was not able to participate past the first 30% of the season, due to injury. If granted, that year does not count against the player's 5 years to play 4. It isn't a sure bet, though. The NCAA has said "no" before.
Don't count on Lee starting next week. I doubt if Hatch's injury will keep him out, and while Lee certainly improved his stock last night, it is doubtful that he improved it enough to take over the starting slot. However, if he continues to improve and gain more confidence, he will likely take over the #1 slot at some point in the season.
meant no disrespect to JJ at all......shouldve put a wink in there I guess. Me thinks he is going to be a good one and we will have a three man race for QB next season. I am just one who believes if there is ANY WAY to redshirt a true frosh, esp at quarterback, then do it.
I don't disagree I just found the statement about grabbing some wood to be a little mean spirited especially toward one of our new young players.
I'm sure we'll here more about Hatch's injury later but it's possible he won't be available for Missed St. JJ could be #2 for the next game, he could play a good bit this Sat under a number of scenarios.
I'm just at a lost for words for anyone who has come to this conclusion. I don't get it. Hatch offers absolutely no threat in the passing game when it comes to tough SEC defenses. Even a team like MSU will give him problems this weekend, if he is fortunate enough to play. My concern coming into the season was not having a deep threat. And it certainly was that way in the Auburn game. No respect for the long ball cuz he couldn't complete that pass no matter what (see Toliver long pass that was overthrown). Going into this game, I felt like Hatch's ability to run did warrant him taking the bulk of the snaps, but only because I didn't think Lee could handle SEC play. And obviously the first half did expose that. But Hatch limits our offense so much, it's too much of a detriment. Lee has to start. He has to take the bulk of the snaps. He will make his mistakes, but he will put many more points on the board to make up for them mistakes. We're not going to beat Florida 9-6. We can beat them 31-28, however. Get it?
