Anyone remember how long it took the fans to turn from Help Mac Pack to Bring Mac Back? Perspective folks. Everyone could use a little more.
Doesn't matter. He's consistently beating the shit out of teams that have far more talent (according to recruting services) than he does. The man can flat-out coach. I don't think they will. Texas is still Texas and Queensbury appears to be fizzling a bit as the season wears on.
Further, I only contend Miles wins mostly due to talent... http://www.pro-football-reference.com/colleges/
I don't think that Miles is a dumbass, although he does sometimes go to greath lengths to prove me otherwise. I think his biggest problem the last couple of years is that he refuses to evolve with the game of college football. The game is far different than it was when he first got here, and he doesn't seem to want to recognize that or adapt his style to it. The lack of halftime adjustments speaks to this quite well. His stubbornness and questionable loyalties do, as well.
I remember we had a tough season in 2008, and then if I recall, LSU never won a game again and dropped off the face of the Earth.
I don't know that much about Briles but everyone seems to say good things about him. I didn't realize until last week that he was a really good high school athlete in Texas, went to play at a big school somewhere for football, and his parents were killed in a car crash on their way to watch him play when he was a sophmore. When the game ended, they told him about his parents.
They are pretty fed up with Brady Hoke right now. He's got one more year and I wonder if U of M would court Les again with 5 more years left in that contract. If we go 6-6 next year and Michigan continues to suck- well the timing on this thing... I know not everyone likes Miles up here. There is a faction of MI alum that might favor someone else, but I think the whole Miles returns "home" and "Michigan Man" thing would bode well for both sides. And his style of football is also a perfect fit for a fanbase that is still shell shocked from the Rich Rod days.
You're right. It would be super hard to replace a coach that is going 9-3 / 8-4. If I start underperforming at my job I get fired. Why is coaching any different? Miles had some good years here but it's been a down turn for 2 years now and next year is looking like more of the same. The sooner people realize that this isn't the same Miles that won the NC the better. I'm sorry to say it but the dude has went soft. He doesn't have that fire anymore. I don't care what Miles did 7 years ago. This game evolves and changes and if you can't keep up then you get left behind. We are not Penn State and Miles is not JoePa. We've already replace def cord. We've already replaced off cord. There's only one move left to have a big impact on our program and maybe right the ship before it crashes. Getting rid of Miles now would be a preemptive move to try and save the team from bottoming out and hopefully turn things around. Will that happen? I doubt it. Odds are it will take another few years of mediocrity and weak recruiting that will hurt us for multiple years after that.
With all due respect to the original poster's intent, this thread is a mirror image of those I saw when I peeked in on the Hawg forum last year.
