Like I always say, if you're gonna get rid of a coach, you better have one as good or better to replace him with. An it has to be the right fit, has to be able to put together the right staff at that school. That staff must be able to recruit at that school. Too many things come into play. Years ago a good friend was trying to sign the top player in this town and one of the top players in the state. Never could make endroads on this kid. The high school coach told my friend, you need to go see this preacher. Once he saw the town preacher, the kid opened up to his recruitment. My buddy signed the kid, an yes, it was to LSU. The preacher wanted to make sure the kid was gonna be looked after once he signed. In recruitment, you never know where it's gonna take you. It's a fine line in signing a kid or having him sign with another school.
You are right Dad and to me that is the problem with those who throw out names or just say LSU is so great we can get whoever we want. I'm not saying that it should paralyze the administration from constantly pushing for improvement and considering options when needed but don't act rashly and have a plan and develop options before you are forced to act. Two things Miles defenders (and I am one of his most vociferous) need to consider. One that at 60, how much longer is he going to stay? He isn't like Saban or Paterno or the like with only football to animate them. He has other interests and a real family to fall back on. Second is this year a blip or a trend? I think it takes time to know at least another 2 years unless there is a radical change in direction one way or another next year. I did hear one preseason report on how SEC coaches saw the other teams in the conference. This was an anonymous survey and it was reported that they saw LSU as sliding.
Good ol Herbie put LSU on the slide a couple years ago. I will agree with @LSUDad that you can't just put some slappy in there and expect results...oh wait a minute, that already happened. Trouble is Les is like finding that one used car on the lot that takes you farther than was expected. Problem is the warranty has ran out and the wheels are coming off and not a damn thing we can do but watch it burn. I sure hope TAF, BOS, the AD whoever whatever are working behind the scenes. Maybe after the maggies lay the woos on Sat a few more eyes will open. Alas it will only be more excuses.
Got a built in excuse/explanation for our defensive woes this year. Though flawed, our D has been pretty dang stout under chavis's watch and this year is by far his worst. Hard to can peaches after one year.
This may have been mentioned but if they replace Miles what will keep Cam here? Edit: I think Miles is fine, just a down year with a lot of coaching changes and personnel changes on Def.
