You forget 1969 and 1970. Cholly Mac was the only one of Bears assistants to beat him. The 1969 team ranks with the best of LSU's teams with one loss and losing to NC Nebraska in the Sugar Bowl. As I remember the D held opponents to less than 70 yards/game rushing.
LSU won 20-15. I assume you're betting with a point spread. Can't see how that team wasn't at least a 6 point favorite being ranked 12th and Bama not ranked at all.
The 69 team didn't play in a bowl game. They got screwed by the cotton bowl and ended up voting not to go to a lesser bowl.
You don't think those three don't think if given a real chance their years at LSU could hav been better? Jarrett Lee was done very wrong. Randal and Shepard were both better than they were able to prove. The whole 2011 team was screwed of a national title.
U can reread this post and find nothing wrong with it? Flynn mauck and lafell were saban recruits. A lot of who you mentioned were on defense. Miles and co along with the recruits who decided not to come to Baton Rouge are the only ones to know what miles missed out on in recruiting. Is rettig here because of miles or because of Cameron?
I gave you offensive players, this years team has a good group on that side of the ball. Mett, Hill, OBJ, Landry, like before, I can add more names if needed. An these were here before Cam.
I agree with you completely on Lee who did not have the benefit of above average coaching and I'll never understand why Lee never made it into the second half of the NCG. With regards to Randal and Shepard, they both are playing in the NFL, but that begs your question. True, Randal would have shown more with better QB play, but LSU has taken steps to greatly upgrade our QB coaching. Unfortunately, too late for both Lee and Randal who would have benefited as our current receivers are. For Shepard, I don't know if he had it in him to excel on offense at the college or NFL level. I remember one of his first carries at LSU and he was literally picked up off of the ground and thrown down. I thought then that he might have real issues playing in SEC, but even with his limited carries, he did have a high rushing average. Unfortunately, he just could not consistently catch the ball. On hind sight, wish he would have switched from QB to Safety. For the current LSU team, we have had some bad luck with offensive coordinators, but hopefully Cam will stick and start to hire his own position coaches. The question for me and I suspect most LSU fans is what will our future defenses look like.
