Jimbo's offenses set records because we were at a turning point in football where offenses were scoring a whole hell of alot more. Plus it's not like those LSU passing records were ever gaudy.
And?? I still don't think that makes him or Miles the second best coach in the country, and Miles has 2 more NCG appearances than Jimbo. I'm not denying his success at LSU, but I don't think that bolsters your point. Jimbo had some good teams, yes, but I was glad to see him move on because he went ultra-conservative for a couple of games in 2006 that we ended-up losing. I'm sure this will bring out the "Miles was meddling" crowd, but this shit happened under Saban, too. In 2007, LSU broke all kinds of offensive records. Then we did it again in 2011, I believe. I think we were on pace to do more this year, but I haven't been keeping up. In summary, Jimbo has been bested by god damn Crowton and Studrawa here since he's left.
Well Miles inherited a much different scenario than Jimbo and Miles has been a head coach for far longer. With regards to meddling, both Miles and Saban have been known to go conservative. It is a philosophy that has kept them in the thick of it. In the end, the HC will always trump the OC.
Yep, ask Jennings, Retting, DeSean Smith, Diarse, Stokes, and signed early this year...... Trey Quinn, Palelei, Washington and Upchurch.......some from this years class coming in to LSU.
Jimbo liked what he inherited, following a coach that had been there for how long? Having Miami and Fla programs in not the best shapes. An a state that hes getting more of a pick in the kids coming out of high school. A program that has been real stable, more than most in the nation. Think of this one, Jimbo hired Jeremy Pruitt as his DC, this is making Pruitt only the 3rd DC at Fla St in the last 28 seasons, talk about a stable program. Jimbo had offers, Pro and college to leave LSU, he wasn't leaving for just any job, he had a great job at LSU, had to be something special.
The new offense kids coming in are going to have an advantage over the older guys. All they have to do us learn Cams offense. The older guys have to learn it while forgetting Studs. I really hope we have some big nasty ass offensive lineman to protect Jennings, Rettig and Harris next year.
Not sure that the all three examples you gave speak poorly of Miles... > Russell Shepard (one of my favorite LSU recruits) did make a pro team and is doing in the NFL what he did very well at LSU --- Play defense on special teams. > Rueben Randal is having a good NFL career. Yes, Jarret Lee was shafted --- Thrown into the fire too soon and worse, not allowed a chance in the second half of the NCG.
Not to mention every program has more players whose careers end up not amounting to much then players who excel. That's why teams can sign 25 players a year. Recruits have confidence in themselves and don't believe they will be anything but super successful. They have to have that mindset to sign with a program like LSU. The ones who don't sign with sunbelt conference teams even if they are being recruited by the powerhouses.
All true, but sometimes academics dictates what opportunities exist for the player, and sometimes needs dictate who a program will take.
Or like........ Ron Brooks Michael Brockers Steven Ridley Joe Barksdale Kelvin Sheppard Perry Riley Brandon LaFell PP7 Matt Flynn Matt Mauck Dwayne Bowe Got a bunch more, want me to keep going? An you do know that Randal and Shepard are on Pro teams?
