I'll never understand the school of thought where it is never acceptable to criticize players who are underperforming. Gary Crowton's play calling with an experienced QB was unstoppable and by no means could be called predictable. Here you have quarterbacks that either don't know the entire playbook or can't mentally deal with on-field adversity. You are also looking at an offensive line that is absolutely atrocious at pass blocking.
Really?? I didn't realize Crowton is our OL coach and actually is allowed to stand next to the QB on the field while he is getting blitzed to console him.
I hate cliches but I'm going to use one now..... "It's not the X's & the O's it's the Jimmys and the Joes." While coaching obviously is important there is only so much you can do. I think if anything our qb recruiting and OL attrition has come back to bite us last year, this year and possibly next. Lastly, it's hard to quantify coaching but how about Brick Haley? Well respected....has the DL really shown much impact? Is it him or the players? Secondary Coach (Cooper, I believe)....secondary has played solidly it seems to me....how good would he look with Jai E. and Chris H. out there all game long? Patrick P. sure makes his coaches look good. Linebackers are an obvious improvement....but again....seems the talent must be there for chance for improvement even to exist. Qb.....there is simply a gaping hole in terms of experience and talent compared to the recent, successful LSU teams. I hate to lay all the blame on Crowton since he has already done well with a qb with talent/experience. Bottom line, we have qb issues and they won't be fixed anytime soon. So looks like the best plan for LSU to win football games is shorten the game, don't get into any track meets, rely on good defense, sharp special teams and win the turnover battle. Wait, maybe the coaches aren't such idiots after all.....
