Does anyone know what he could have been thinking on that kick return? I looked at the play again, and I was glad to see he did not appear to get the players neck but the high shoulder pad. I guess this is why it was called a hold (his arm wrapped the player). I am not trying to cover for him. I thought the play was stupid, could have cost us the game, and more importantly could have injured the other player. I am just interested to know is it legal to swing your arm into another player to attempt to knock him off his route? Obviously, TM was too far behind and ended up curving his arm and thus the hold. I was surprised it was not a personal foul. I would like to know the rules on this. TM7 plays very aggresive, and opponents think of him as dirty, much like AU's Farley last year. I think he needs to play smarter, and with less jawing, or the personal fouls are sure to come. GEAUX
The way he jaw jacks with everyone is annoying enough, but he took it to another level tonight an needlessly injured an opponent. He should sit out next week's game.
Deserved or not, dude is getting himself quite a rep. He needs to think about what he is doing and what he should be doing. Needs to get back to letting his play on the field do his talking, nothing else.
Agreed. The jawing is part of his swagger and though I don't like it, I'll have to live with it. The other tonight was uncalled for. I think he's been reading his press and buying into the hype. Reign it in a bit, young fella. You're too good for all of that.
CLM & coaches have to take him aside & jar him into playing smarter. We already know he 'brings it' to each game, and has the skills. Now he has to be shown how disastrous certain actions can be, both to the team's progress and to the opponent's safety. I'm not saying to be handing out bouquets of flowers out there--smash mouth is smash mouth--but the unnecessary roughness, horse collars, face masks, etc. will be called & the zebras will have his number. Lucky, in such a tight game as tonight, that it didn't all turn on something TM7 did wrong.
I am having a really hard time understanding how people are trying to label that as a dirty play. It was no more than holding, he spun the defender around with his arm. He didn't hit him in the head/neck or knees. Frankly I don't know how Kirkpatrick got injured, because it didn't look bad at all. Please enlighten me as to why TM is the villain.
It was obviously a stupid mistake as it negated 30 yards on the return, but vicious or malicious it was not. I'm sure he'll hear about it, and will make better decisions in future games, but for people to call him a thug (Bama Fans) for it is just retarded, especially considering the other player it involved.
They watch tape. No escaping that. The tape doesn't lie. The coaches will address it but I don't think it changes anything. He is the catalyst. How else do you think you get on the field when u are a midget? he plays hard and talks alot but the team collectively backs it up.
This may help we have too understand the Bama mind When you understand the Bama mind set it helps , I wish The 7 would let his talent do the talking , and keep his thoughts to himself . After all in his last 2 starts , he got out played . Tennessee ran all over him , but his style is too trash talk . It was better too have a 15 yarder than a TD , he did the right thing .TM let your talent do your talking !!!! Now to understand the Bama mind set . They are such good sports in Bama World . I would bet tafter the game they held a prayer meeting , and it went something like this ."Now Lord you know we played well enough too win . Once again we got robbed , protect our team , and Lord them Tigers well they can just go too , Hello land . You know they have a long trip home , Thank you " This morning they got up rushed to the sports section , and said "Lord they made it home .Why ? I said too protect our team . " Here is why i say that we as LSU fans are barred in tide fans LOL , oh the crying in Bama World so sad !! GEAUX TIGERS !!! ADMIN NOTE: No more posts by LSU fans are welcome today...
I agree. Being cocky has its limits, but after his one game suspension for his own self-indulgence, and the two pass interference calls the week before that, one would think that Mathieu would have had some time to think that perhaps some minor adjustments were in order. He needs to let his play do the talking, and that play should reflect someone who has publicly professed his desire to win the Heisman, not the actions of someone who thinks he'll be forgiven in his play and personal life just because he's the "Honey Badger".
