Doesn't his contract read he will always make $1,000 more than any other SEC coach? Now there's Urban at the top.... Florida Gators make Urban Meyer highest paid in SEC with 6-year, $24 million deal - ESPN
After the defensive fiasco last year I don't think anyone's gonna be talking raise at least until after this season is over. Les already makes serious money as a BCSNC coach, so it's unlikely at this point.
You may be correct. He's currently in 6th place now behind Nick $aban "If LSU wins the national championship, the contract provides Miles would become among the nation's top-earning college football coaches, no less than the third highest-paid. University officials estimate that would put his annual earnings between $3.2 million and $3.5 million -- but that could grow depending on contract negotiations with other coaches around the country." 1. Pete Carroll, USC Pac-10 $4.4M 2. Charlie Weis, Notre Dame Ind. $4.2M (now that's money well spent.) 3. Urban Meyer, Florida SEC $4M 4. Nick Saban, Alabama SEC $3.9M 5. Bob Stoops, Oklahoma Big 12 $3.8M 6. Les Miles, LSU SEC $3.8M
Not to mention the fact that he voluntarily didnt take his pay from the uni in the summer months to help with the budget. I dont think anyone in the LSU system is getting a raise anytime soon...
that's for that year it happened, it's not ongoing and if it is, miles has the best agent in the world. i'm sure 1st round draft picks back in the 80's want 1st round money today.
I've always been curious about this. How much of Les' base pay (excluding endorsements and other income) comes from the LSU system (state) and how much comes from private sources (like TAF)? I remember the Reveille published a list of employees' salaries and they showed Les barely making 6 figures.
Since Les has won a BCSNC under his current contract, I seem to remember language that said he wouldn't be paid less than the third highest paid public school coach. Red, is that what you recall?
He got a raise to be the highest paid coach in the SEC at the time when he won the national championship. If Saban's and Meyer's escalating contracts pay them more after that, LSU is not obligated to match it. Coaches get raises, bonuses and extensions after winning championships or otherwise meeting other bonus clauses like having a certain percentage of players graduate. Les doesn't expect any raises or bonuses unless he brings home a trophy. That's the way it works.
I found an article that explains his salary better than any I've read and validates Red's recollection. 2theadvocate.com | LSU Sports | Miles could get $3.75 million — Baton Rouge, LA
