I don't buy that this guy is THAT bad... I think our recruiting guys here are looking through some purple and gold goggles! If he was this inaccurate, he wouldn't be a 5 star prospect!
I just saw some of his highlight clips on rivals. You're right. He isn't as bad (accuracy) as some are making him out to be. But in the 3 clips that I watched, he only threw 3 passes farther than 20 yards (1 was a BIG one, and the other 2 covered probably about 45-55 yards each). If I were to be critical about one aspect (and I don't know if a lot of these were by design), but I thought he pulled the ball down and ran a little too much. He looked good running over people--but some of those defenders were so much smaller than he is (and he won't be running over that many people at the next level).
You're all drawing the wrong comparison and I'm sorry for not making it clearer. Lane was a highly questionable talent compared to Russell. Everything that I have read about the two show that Cate is the less regarded of the two. Saban would have been dumb to stick to his "promise" of not recruiting another QB and letting Russell go. Same scenario for Cate/Tebow. I wouldn't go so far as to roll out the red carpet. but come signing period time if Tebow is still showing string interest then he should certainly be recruited.

I think when you have a kid that is a #5 player coming out at any position if you get the chance you take him. That being said I think Cate will turn out to be better than Teabow.
The other Bama fan who posted earlier is right about Tebow. He is going to either Florida or Alabama. His parents are UF alums but they aren't too crazy about Urban Meyer. He is high on Alabama though. I know yall have no reason to believe me but for those of you who live in Alabama and get NBC 13, Andrew Bone does recruiting news on Sunday nights. He has had Andre Smith and Deantwan Whitehead as guests of his on the show, he works for Scout.com and keeps in very close contact with many recruits, Tebow being one of them. Bone is a friend of mine and he says we have a good shot at him but if he had to guess he'd still be going to Florida. As for Andre Smith, the #2 prospect in the nation, he talks to Andre every day and believes we are going to get him. That would be an ENORMOUS pick up and really help out our O-line.
Personally I think Tebow is in the process of replacing Florida with LSU on his list because he isn't all that impressed with Urbane or his offense. I believe Bama is the leader but that we could step into the picture bigtime with a great visit this weekend.
I respect the kid's game, but frankly I'm just as happy (really more) with Alex Cate. Has anyone seen his videos? Unbelievable field general...and the tigerbait article today says it all...they got the playbook from Jimbo, and ALEX IS RUNNING LSU'S OFFENSE, RIGHT NOW, in order to get used to it!
