2002 8-5, 5-3 in conference play. 2008 8-5, 3-5 in conference play. 2002 was a down year in SEC play, right?
Just a side note from the point of my personal opinion. If there is one phrase that has no place in this thread it's "Beamer ball." That hasn't existed in years.
I referenced a special teams play in that '02 VT game but am struggling to remember it. I want to say Domanick Davis had a punt return for a TD called back that would have put us up 7-0. Do you or anyone else remember? I realize it's pointless now but my brain won't let it geaux.
The SEC of '02 was a sight weaker than the SEC of '08, that's for sure. But one thing LSU had in common both seasons was pathetic QB play (in '02 after Mauck was injured in the 4th quarter of a blow-out victory at Florida; in '08 after RP's dismissal.) ETA: Of course, Miles doesn't lose to OOC teams in the regular season, but Saban regularly did.
I still say the defense was 100 times more responsible for the woes of 2008 than QB play. I know that six pick-sixes are a lot, but we lost those games by a whole lot more than a combined 42 points.
