Like Saban Fan, I thought the past five or six years Tiger had played 15 tournaments (Tour minimum). I checked his web site and looked at yearly results since he turned pro in late 1996. I didn't see a full year where he played less than 18 official events. Here's a year-by-year breakout of the number of tournaments entered: 1996 8 1997 21 1998 20 1999 21 2000 20 2001 19 2002 18 2003 18 2004 19 2005 21 2006 12 He has to play three more events this year to reach the fifteen minimum which will give him 200 over the 10 full years he's been a pro. An average of 20 a year. Surprised me. And he's won over $62 million in official prize money not counting the Silly Season events, overseas events, appearance money, etc. Not bad, not bad.
you guys think he will raise the number of events he plays in for this stupid fed ex cup stuff that is starting next year?
To be honest, I don't know that much about the FedEx Cup to give you an intelligent answer. One thing was apparent looking at Tiger's yearly schedule. For the most part he plays a lot of the same events on the same courses year after year after year. Something tells me that unless he has to play some of the events, he won't. His focus is on majors. Everything else is secondary.
Yep, I keep waiting on that Hewlett Packard Classic appearance but it hasn't happened since I have been going.
Well, CoTiger was nice enough to email me the rules of the Cup, and if Tiger isn't winning easily in those standings, I expect him to play more...
Why would you expect Tiger to play more? The money's nice, but he isn't driven by money and certainly doesn't need it. As I wrote in a previous post, his schedule is built around the majors and tournaments and courses he likes. I'll go out on a limb and say you won't see him adding tournaments late next year just to get in the hunt for the FedEx Cup.
He is driven by being the best, and if someone jumps out way ahead of him, they can justify being "the best," something he won't let happen. Also, some of the "playoff" events fall on courses and events he typically don't play on.
What a surprise. Tiger wins again, his fourth win in a row. He didn't have his A game, particularly on the back nine where he lost a 3 shot lead. Beat Stewart Cink in a playoff.
