That's because it's Tiger's driver getting into trouble but it's not Tiger trying to get out of trouble.

So that equals about 2.2 points per Ryder Cup for Tiger. I bet if you go back and look its probably the highest average point total per event for any US player since the format changed in the early 80's. Back when Trevino and Nicklaus were racking up Ryder Cup points it was against a very weak field that didnt include all the European players.

One thing for sure about this Ryder Cup, if the standings stay on their current course, this Ryder Cup team is going to look very different than the last two teams. Over two thirds of the team will be new Ryder Cup players and maybe thats not a bad thing.

I know the 5 captains have paired Tiger with just about every combination in the fourball and foursomes. I didn't look at their record but I suspect the Tiger pairng with Furyk might have been the best pairing.

If I was Zinger I would be using every comparison imagineable to the US hockey team at Lake Placid in 1980. Hell, I might even name Mike Eruzione the team psychologist/cheerleader.

I am not at all surprised that he took time off. I am very surprised he has a torn ligament that will require surgery as well as a stress fracture. To win with those kind of injuries is just unbeliveable. Mayby he is not human after all.

He is 10-13-2 in his career at the Ryder Cup.

That's about our average (percentage wise) as a team in those 5 Ryder Cup matches.

Therefore, as I stated before, not a big loss.

And he sure isn't a leader when it comes to this event. He just seems out of place when it comes to the Ryder Cup. Have no idea why.

Tiger played in 7 events this year.

Won 5 of them, finished 2nd at the Masters and the other was a top 5 finish.

    With a torn ACL.

    Geez.

What must be going through the minds of Mickelson, Furyk, Scott, Garcia, etc when they realize not only does Tiger kick their collective asses with two good legs, but he does it with one as well.

Tiger said he hasn't felt healthy in about a decade.

    You're kidding, right?

    The legend grows.

I'll start this by saying I'm a huge fan of Tiger and I love watching him play. In fact, I won't be surprised if I watch only the final round coverage of majors for the rest of the year with him gone; but

With the revelation that, as has been pointed out, he won five of seven, finished one stroke behind in the Masters, and a top five, with all the injuries...
Does this somehow weaken the argument that he's the greatest in a way? I mean, All the other great players (Palmer, Nicklaus, etc) have always had consistent competition from great players. But if he (Tiger) can go out there with one leg, and no ACL and still be Far and Away the greatest - does this just prove that without Tiger, this would be the worst crop of golfers in decades?
Phil, Singh, Toms, Goosen, Els... They win a big tourney once every 3-4 years... Then you get Rocco, Ben Curtis, Hamilton, Campbell, Rich Beem and a bunch of other "I played the best weekend in my life and somehow fell into a Major win" guys.

Not sure if this post makes any sense, and don't get me wrong, I still believe that Tiger is the greatest golfer of our time, and likely of all time. I just wish he had a more consistent competition from great (not just mediocre) competition. No one should be able to be hurt like Tiger was last week and even make the cut. Either Tiger is better than anyone imagined, or his competition is crappier than anyone imagined.
