I said on the other thread that I thought he would take the rest of the year off so Im not surprised by this news. Its incredible that he played the Open with a stress fracture AND torn ACL. He has a LONG recovery ahead of him. I wouldnt look for him to be anywhere near a tournament until close to the 09 Masters.

One has to wonder what a long layoff like this will do to his game. He is the greatest shot maker and putter the world has ever known but those crazy cuts and draws are shots you have to constantly play in order to keep sharp. I would suspect he will be off his "A" game for quite some time when he returns even if he fully heals.

Im sure he is but I didnt expect us to win the Ryder Cup even with Tiger. The top 15 Euro's are playing better golf, and have for some time, then the top 15 US players. Sure we have Tiger, Phil, Furyk and a few others but top to bottom the Euro's are better.

I agree with you entirely. We were decided underdogs with Tiger, and now it's really desperate. Best case scenario would be for the US squad to use it as a rallying point and collectively play perfect match play golf.

To be honest, Tiger is one of the all-time worst Rider's cup players as far as the first two days are concerned, when he has to have a playing partner. He is quite good on Sunday, however.

Not a huge loss in the grand scheme of things.

Actually it is a huge loss. Tiger is better than the perceived record because the most important thing about Ryder Cup is points. Tiger's average point total per Ryder Cup is somewhere around 2.5 points per event. Thats a far cry from worst Ryder Cup players. Thats a better average than almost all the Ryder Cup players in history with only a couple players like Nicklaus and Trevino with better average point totals. If each player on the team can average 1.5 points we would walk away with every Ryder Cup in a landslide. In that perspective, losing Tigers 2.5 will be huge.

In 5 Ryder Cup matches here are Tiger's results:

    Foursomes (alternate shot) : 3-6-1

    Fourball (best ball): 4-6-0

    Singles: 3-1-1

The US team has gotten drummed the last two matches. The three prior matches Tiger competed in were much closer.

The biggest loss will be in tv revenue. I imagine the viewership will suffer a huge loss for the rest of the year. Quite a trooper to play like that. Hope he comes back fully from it.

You bet. The ratings are significantly lower in the events that Tiger doesn't play in. There's also a significant difference in people attending the events Tiger plays in versus those he doesn't.

Hell, if I was CBS I'd kick Faldo out of the tower on 18 and offer the chair to Tiger for the rest of the season.
