Considering that it is the people in the bowl, between the 50s, that leave early, its good that they are putting in more "cheap seats".
The turf for The Swamp in Lafayette is nice. I've been down on it and it has a good feel and a nice look... and it is some of the cheapest you can find.
But he always said that the biggest reason was that the lower bowl would have to be rebuilt. By not having the new upper deck sit on top of the lower bowl they likely will be able to replace the lower bowl without having to do anything to the new addition. Some smart engineering!
The original plan for a full-height upper deck is not happening, still. That would have brought Tiger Stadium to about 108,000 seats which would be very hard to fill when all games are on HDTV. They still haven't shown the numbers for how this expansion is going to pay for itself. Even by making it smaller and a skybox/club seating expansion.
