My favorite 2 experiences with other schools' fans was last February when I was in Auburn, NY on business.... Actually Syracuse, at the airport. I always travel decked out in purple and gold, it's just what I do when I go out of state. When I showed up to turn in my rental car, the lady noticed my LSU jacket. She looked at me and said, "Oh, an LSU fan eh? You DO realize this is an Orange town, don't you?".. My reply was simply, "Not today it's not, ma'am." Shortly after that, I was having a couple beers before my flight out, and in the sports bar in the terminal a tall dude walks up to me and says, "LSU huh? Good to see someone from down south here.". I looked up and saw he was wearing an Auburn cap. I said, "Auburn fan huh? You go to school there or something?", which he did. Right then before he could finish his response, I looked at him and yelled "Tigerbait!". He got this look on his face, and looked at me and said, "Damn, you people just don't cut us any slack, do you?".. I ended up drinkin a beer with him before my flight, and he got a kick out of it, but that was a funny day for me as an LSU fan.
I find the opposite actually, and I live in Houston also. In fact, I find that fans of all other schools take note of my hat or shirt and ask about our team. Wear a hat to an astros game and you won't make it to your seat without a "Geaux Tigers". Heck I get it walking my dog down the street when cars see her leash. If you are finding Tiger "fans" that want to keep it on the downlow, they probably were bandwagon fans to begin with.
Surprisingly, out here in Vegas there are a ton of LSU fans. I see license plate frames, bumper stickers, window decals, and the normal fan clothing almost every day. Anytime I see someone I either give a Geaux Tigers or when driving give a honk and point to the window decal on my truck. I almost always get a warm response typical of a Tiger fan. We have a bar called "PT's Gold Pub" that during football season holds LSU themed events on Saturdays. They even have a crawfish boil every now and then during the season. What surprised me the most is the place is packed. There must be anywhere from 1000-1500 people there every game day. The disappointing thing is that none and I mean none of the sports apparel stores here carry anything LSU other than hats. It sucks.:LSU231: :geauxtige :LSU231:
I haven't been around the world but I have been to most states including Alaska and Hawaii as well as Mexico and the Carribean and every time I wear LSU garb, I get a Geaux Tigers from someone. We're everywhere.
I always "Geaux Tigers!" fellow LSU fans. If they don't "shout" back, well its their loss. I also never fail to shake the hand of someone I come across who is or was in the military and thank them for serving our country.:thumb:
