Ok, so it is the off-season and I am going to go ahead and start a little rant here and see if anyone else has the same thing happen to them... Throughout the day, in my daily experiences with doing activities with my girlfriend around town or in other Texas cities or while doing the tasks given to me due to my employment I have found I come in contact with a growing amount of Tiger fans. Now, me being the outgoing, die-hard Tiger fan I am I usually let out a "GEAUX TIGERS!" Nothing too loud or overbearing to where it would take them by surprise or be embarrassed but just enough to where they could hear it for sure. Either in my naivety or my wanting of similar fans to give me a boisterous "GEAUX TIGERS!" back, I am usually left disappointed with their response and my girlfriend laughing at me for being "that guy." Their usual response? "Yea" with one of those flick of the head and eyes that give off the impression that they don't want to be seen as a Tiger fan, like it's a stigma. It disappoints me that Texas fans aren't as die-hard or bleed purple & gold as they do in Louisiana. *Bonus Discussion* No college city I have ever been to (Austin, TX, College Station, TX, Mississippi State, etc.) have the same amount of school pride or will wear school regalia on a daily basis without a reason to (a la football season) as they do in Baton Rouge, LA.
Every time I am seen in my LSU hoodie, beanie, t-shirt, golf polo, etc..... I get a Geaux Tigers!! All the time! Sometimes I even get asked if I play or played for the tigers. I live in Houston, I see LSU Alumni, and General LSU Stickers and License plate brackets everyday. Houston, is full of fans from all across the nation but, we have some die hard Tiger Fans here!
I haven't seen stats in a lot of years but before Katrina, New Orleans had the greatest number of LSU grads of any US city. Houston was number two. I suspect that Houston became number one after New Orleans flooded. Many, many people didn't return. Don't remember where my data originated but it sounds correct. Anyone have any data on this?
My old roommate did it the opposite way. Whenever he saw a Cowboys fan he would yell Dallas sucks. As you can imagine, he was from Philly.
welcome to the forum. we've had a kinda large number of longtime members making their 1st post in rather meaningless threads lately.
i dont see too many around here but when i do i have to give a "geaux tigers" or more often than not, they want to talk lsu football for a bit. in omaha, you couldnt swing a dead cat without hitting a tiger fan so many made the trek even tho lsu wasnt in the cws. it was great!
we've also had a lot of active long time members members make meaningless posts in a large number of threads lately.:hihi: and im probably guilty as charged.
I think it's great to see so many Tiger fans out and about these days. North Texas is positively filthy with purple and gold the last few years, and at Disney World earlier this summer, every 3rd person (when they weren't from Ohio) was wearing LSU gear. The number of Ohio natives in Orlando in June was incredible, by the way.
