Three questions for those who track August practice. 1. What positions are shallow enough that a key injury might devastate us? 2. Which starting jobs are still up in the air with tight competition? 3. Are our kickers up to SEC standards this season?
I've heard it said that D-line and corner are pretty shallow, at least in terms of experience. The number two safety is still yet to be hashed out, along with the fifth man on the O-line. I've heard that Hawkins has come in and really pushed Alexander almost out of the running. We should be fine with punting and kickoffs. I don't even know who our field goal kicker is going to be. Hopefully, we won't need him much this year! ;-)
No, that makes sense. Alexander was pretty damn good, IIRC, but if Hawkins is better, watch out! Kind of a shame, though. Turner and Alexander had good chemistry by the end of the year. Didn't they even have a name? Bull and Dozer, or something like that? I was looking forward to them developing into kind of a dream team in those spots for the next couple of years. Maybe even get drafted together and play on the same team. Buy matching houses next door on the same street. Marry some twins....
Beckham and Dural are two guys who can really stretch the field. Would hate to see either go down, especially Dural. Anthony Johnson getting injured would really hurt. If Josh Williford gets another ding on the noggin he might be done for good. I would really like to see them move Alexander over to the LG spot to back Williford up and maybe even rotate with him. Everybody talking about all the talent at LB, but the Middle Backer spot looks mighty shaky to me. Overall I think we're in pretty good shape depth wise.
I thought Edinborough (sp?) was the next tackle in line for that spot? I"m assuming you think they are flipping R and L?
Don't know for sure but Dandy Don just tweeted that Jim Kleinpeter reports that Williford suffered a concussion at practice today. I hope Alexander and Pocic are up to it.
