We were moving the chains despite not scoring the first 2 drives. Canada will diversify when it's necessary. In case you didn't notice, BYU stayed with 6 in the box rather than load up. Why, you may ask? Because even though LSU was running the ball at will they still feared the big play pass. That's something we have been lacking for years.
Excellent points. I think we just got a lot deeper after last night's game. The suspensions were a blessing in disguise.
Sometimes it takes some adversity to force individuals to step up and make plays. Last night the LSU defense stepped up and showed they're ready. This unit doesn't look to have skipped a beat after the departures they had from last season, instead they seem to have gotten even better. If the offense improves week after week, only 0-1 loss looks pretty realistic. Might even be Sugar bound.
Just watched the whole thing again. A lot looked good, if not great, but the penalties REALLY stood out. We have to get that fixed!
I thought the same thing, especially on the 1st two possessions. It does seem they made point to address that specifically at half time. Penalties seemed more limited in the 2nd half. Pretty sure too, a lot of the early penalties were due to the new formation shifts and what not. That area should improve drastically as they get more and more practice/game time experience under Canada.
Kick off coverage is what really needs a lot of work. Watched the game again and if we leave lanes open like that against SEC teams we are in trouble.
I hope so. I was very happy with the hiring of Canada, and think he is going to be good. However, I have been burned more than once in the last 8 years or so, so I am withholding judgement until we see something against a better team. We've looked like world beaters against inferior talent in the past and then looked inept against teams that can match up with us physically.
I agree with your assessment of the O line, I need to see more, and against a better opponent. I think the O line and the passing game are still the biggest question marks. What's going to happen if you have to completely rely on the passing attack? I don't see how LSU wins a game like that. I would love to see a game where LSU comes out slinging, and then decimates the opponent on the ground because they are forced to defend the pass. If LSU can do that is a huge mystery.
