I agree. To be honest, I didn't want McGuire or Sosa to break Maris' single-season HR mark when McGuire did it years back simply because I hate to recognize players that cheated and used something other than their God-given ability to accomplish it.
I'm puling for him to get to 754, then never hit another one for his entire career. I even hope he keeps coming back until he's 73 and still can't hit the tying dinger.
from the im shocked file: Report: Giambi fails amphetamines test NEW YORK (AP) -- Jason Giambi failed an amphetamines test within the last year, the New York Daily News reported Wednesday. The newspaper reported that with the failed amphetamines test, Giambi has been subjected to six additional tests for one year. The newspaper did not cite any sources in its report. Giambi declined comment to the newspaper before the New York Yankees' 7-3 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night. http://www.nbcsports.com/mlb/1541942/detail.html
Greg Anderson STILL wants to know why he's STILL in the Graybar Hotel. FOR THE SECOND FREAKIN' TIME!!!!!!!! If there's not a BIG payoff, then WHY THE HELL IS THE GUY THERE????? All you BB apologists here need to answer that for me. Along with all the SF Giant myopians.
So if he DOES have to break the record, it'll be for a last place TEAM that is circling the drain, trying to run like hell of the prospect of dude wantin' to come back NEXT YEAR... Thanks for sinkin' the Gigantes, B. You're the consummate TEAM player.
Surely they are not going to let him break the record on the road. Can you imagine how ugly that would be? If that happened you could quite possibly see the ugliest crowd reaction to a record breaking performance. Check that, you would most DEFINITELY see the ugliest crowd reaction to a record breaking performance ever.
Bonds is still one of the Top-5 hitters in baseball. Why would the Giants trade him? http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/SFG/2007.shtml Look at how pitiful this team is. Their youngest position player is 32 (!) Their starting SS is 40 years old and putting these numbers up at the plate: .224/.277/.283. Here is the "production" they are getting from their leadoff hitter and CF: .207/.287/.333. .287 OBP!! He is making $5MM this year. Out of 16 NL teams, they rank 13th or lower in every important offensive category. (They do lead the league in triples!) Whoever put this lineup together should not have a job in baseball.
it is a sad sight but a good one. if the team wasnt so terrible it would be even better actually. he'd be even more exposed as the liability he is. shoulda swapped sides and went to oaktown and dh or something. that would be the full circle thing where the whole roid thing seemingly originated in baseball. but hey, he did it against roid head pitchers as well so i guess it balances out.
