http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2788962 Based on my copy of the draft value matrix, the difference in the 37th and 63rd picks is essentially a high third round pick. In light of that, this isn't as bad a trade for the Bears as I thought. I would much prefer Thomas Jones over Cedric Benson for a couple more years, but I guess they play with the cards they, ummm....dealt themselves. :hihi:
yeah i heard this earlier. for some reason lovie is in love with benson. the team was ready to revolt against the management the last 2 years when they implied they were benching tj in favor of cb. jones is an underrated bonafide starter who plays extremely hard. had b2b 1200 yard seasons or something close to that. i guess when you commit to a draft pick it limits your options financially but i see no reason to think cb will be an every down back or have the instensity jones brought. benson did look good at times when spelling tj this season so maybe he will be whats expected. the jets are the real winners here because hes going to be a bargain. wasnt kevan barlow the garbage they added last year? lance briggs demanding a trade from the bears. interesting since i love this guy after overdosing on bears' games last season. give me him over the rest on that d squad but hes got the franchise tag and would carry quite a price. why was mcmichael released? id like him too. harrington finally disposed of. no i dont want him.
Yea, Jones should be about 35 times better than Barlow. That guy is terrible. McMichael was released because every team knew the Fins were willing to cut him. Not exactly good poker by Cameron, plus McMichael was due a big bonus this week, so the move had to come soon. I'm not entirely sure why they were hell bent on getting rid of him. His play deteriorated the past couple of years, but that could be a function of the QB play. And beating his wife (allegedly, though sources that bit&h is crazy.) I see they traded Welker to the Pats too. Man, i hate to see that, as Welker is a solid player. The problem is he's like a great stereo in a car. Nice to have, and definitely makes the car better, but ultimately, beggars can't be choosers. Getting a 2nd and 7th is good. Especially taking the Pats' 7th round pick since they normally turn that slot into a freaking pro bowler. Say what you will about Joey Heisman, but he's no Cleo Lemon.
I really think this is going to come back to bite the Bears in the butt. Let's see: stuck with Rexy at QB, Jones is gone (and Benson has flashes, but not consistently), DC Ron Rivera is gone, and Briggs is extremely unhappy. I'm thinking we won't see the same team next season.
