Found this while reading on another LSU site and it kind of made me worried. Please gimme sum LSU love and tell me we're going to be fine.
For sure. Stats aside, JL was the major problem on offense. What's interesting is that the defense had better stats through the first 4 games last year vs this year. I think most of us agree that our D appears to be much improved over last year, thus should only get better. :geauxtige
Here is some LSU Love...based on the statistics listed above, we have slightly improved on 3rd down conversions! Sorry...just trying to find some humor here.:geaux:
Wish I could agree with that, but I ain't seeing it. As I said in another thread, we all started to worry last year when we couldn't stop UNT's Vizza from passing all over us. Well, I got that feeling last week vs USL, except it's the run that we can't stop now. State did the exact same thing USL did to us on offense, but with better players.
It's true that without ALL the pick sixes last year, we'd have won a couple of those games that we lost (UGA and Bama). We'd have then called it a successful season. Oh, and had we beaten UGA and Bama, we wouldn't have laid down against OM and Arkansas. That being said, YIKES to reading those side-by-side comparisons, even though I did, indeed, think we were doing better at this time last year than we're doing now. That chart just confirmed it.
And...who did we play in our first four games last year? I'm pretty sure they included a 1-AA team and the worst team in 1-A. This year we've beaten contenders for the Pac-10 title, a .500 team in Vandy, arguably the best that the Sun Belt has to offer, and an improving Miss. State team. Don't get me wrong...we'll lose a couple without effectively running the ball, but JJ showed that he can hit one downfield and the defense has stood up at the goal line in consecutive weeks. Did last year's defense have that kind of heart?
stacey, i have believed all along (like you) that the team gave it EVERYTHING they had for the bama game, but when the game was gift wrapped and handed to bama in the form of pick sixes, the team just gave up for the rest of the year. but i also believe that even tho the play is, for back of a better way of putting it, a bit stinky, the discipline of this team is better. that is why i keep hoping we are gonna see improvement. things like all of those celebrations last year for a routine first down stop like they had just made a goal line stand. that was just nonsense. who knows. maybe i just want to keep hope alive we can get better. but its now that its gotta be done. the real tests start next week.
