LSU has played 6 teams so far in the top 25, Arkansas will be #7, Georgia may be #8.Three of these were in the top 10, if LSU makes it to the BCS Championship Game that opponent will be #9, That would make 9 teams in the top 25 with 4 in the top ten. That seems amazing to me, you have to wonder if anyone has ever played this kind of schedule.
As tough as this schedule is it's amazing we're undefeated and have a shot at a title. "IF" we were to win it we would have three titles in nine years. You would have to go back to Nebraska in the 90s and Miami in the 80s to find a comparable run. Those teams won pre-BCS and didn't have to play in conference championships or BCS matchups...or in other words...had less to accomplish to win a title. We often hear about Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, USC, Ohio State, and Oklahoma and how they count every winning season as a national championship so I went back to see what years they claim. Even with them counting everything imaginable it's still easy to see most of their claimed success is ancient. Alabama: (13) 25,26,30,34,41,61,64,65,73,78,79,92,09 Michigan: (11) 01,02,03,04,18,23,32,33,47,48,97 Notre Dame: (11) 24,29,30,43,46,47,49,66,73,77,88 USC: (11) 28,31,32,39,62,67,72,74,78,03,04 Ohio St.: (7) 42,54,57,61,68,70,02 Oklahoma: (7) 50,55,56,74,75,85,00 How many of those have been in the past 25 years? 8 Of those 8...one was vacated (04) and one is complete BS (03) So the traditional powerhouses of college football have won six titles in the past 25 years. If you listen to them talk you would think they each won it every single year. Keep in mind...these are the championships THEY claim NOT the official recognized titles. If LSU is able to win the title this season it wouldn't be just an amazing season but a pretty amazing run this decade.
Yes indeed The strength of this schedule is probably something that no other team outside of Bama could have handled. Even Bama has had a cupcake walk compared to LSU on defense. I was probably the only fool stupid enough to do it, but I went back 3 levels ... that means each opponent, the opponents opponent, and the opponents opponents performance against their opponents. LSU has faced a 30% stronger offensive attack than Bama has, and that is why my computer calculations spit out an LSU win by .04 points. Granted, that is statistically a tie, ...and low and behold, in regulation, that is exactly what we got, a tie, but as all know, the "special teams" plays a factor. But I think even more so, is the "conditioning thread". LSU was still fresh and kicking some butt in OT, whereas it was obvious, Bama was ready to go home. Our defense won that game for us. Yep .. the #2 Defense defeated the #1 Defense. We pushed them back out of FG range in the OT, whereas, they actually let Ford score a TD if not for his lack of attention to the side line. This is one special team ... and to think, most of them come back next year.
College football history will one day be looked upon as pre-BCS and BCS. At the end of this season, LSU is going to be the king of the BCS era! GEAUX! ENJOY!
I have been thinking about this lately, it is too early for me to proclaim like USC did, that LSU is a dynasty. I am patiently waiting until after the BCS championship game!:miles:
I'm hoping that, college football history will one day be looked upon as pre-playoff, and Playoff.
I can't lie....when I first saw this schedule.....I told myself there is no way lsu can run the table......not with the tough road games of this year....so I predicted 1 loss and maybe even two if they slipped up.
