In 2008, it was Micah Gibbs over Ochinko. In 2009, it was Nola to short, DJ to 2nd and Schimpf to the outfield. In 2010, it will be Austin Ross to the bullpen, Matulis now the Saturday guy and Bourgeois will be the Sunday guy. Ross' role will be to try to pitch his share of 5-6 innings in middle relief primarily on Sat-Sun to give LSU some middle relief depth.
We'll have to wait and see on this move, but I remember when people were freaking out over the changes at this time last year. Obviously it worked out for the best.
if i remember hearing correctly on the cpm show last night, ross is gonna try to be used even more specifically for set up if possible. will also be giving gibbs a break behind the plate tonight and getting dozar some game experience to start setting him up to take gibbs place next year. it is expected that he will occasionally start a game so gibbs can get a break down the stretch.
I like it. Austin Ross is just not all that effective as a starter imo. Time to see if he can empty the tank in 1-2 innings and maybe have better stuff.
Definitely support this part. I was at the game on Friday night, and Matulis was throwing absolute cheddar. Having someone that strong as second in the rotation will pay huge dividends in the postseason.
the problem this year has been getting more than 4 good innings out of anyone. when ranaudo gets back full strength i see him giving a good 6 innings, but our starters are dying in the 5th. we need more than that, especially during tournament time. hopefully ross can do what you say.
