Jefferson, maligned throughout his career, insisted he wasn't worried. "We're 4-0 -- what am I going to be frustrated about?" Jefferson said. "Auburn and Alabama are Week 8 and Week 9. We'll just keep working." First off, why in the hell is he talking about Auburn and Alabama. We have Tennessee this week, Florida next week, and McNeese the week after that. A mature QB would be focused on the next game and ONLY the next game. That is where the improvement begins. Basically, he's saying, well, even tho I didn't perform, I can continue to not do well for three more weeks, at least, and we'll be ok. Thats a poor attitude. Week before last, Jefferson is basically telling the fans to get off his back. Last week, he says he's not worried and everything is going fine, and now this, after last night's game. Not only was he snapping at his teammates, cussing, and throwing little tantrums, but when the camera zoomed in on his face in the 3rd qtr, you could see he was done. He had given up. He had none of that fire, that desire to win and confidence that you are surrounded by your friend and teammates who are going to help you get it done. I'm sick of JJ's little pissy faces, his looks of incredulity, and the shaking of his head after he throws interceptions, nearly gets our receivers depacitated ( Whateva MothuPhucka!!!! Sorry Slammin Salmon reference ), or when he tries twice to bounce pass the ball to the receivers. I think, more than anything, he's lost any semblance of leadership that he might have had. His quotes might say one thing, but his play and his actions say another. He doesn't believe in himself and the team doesn't believe that he can do it. I can understand that puts him under a lot of pressure, but how do you think it affects our players to know that their qb will basically be the one thing that hamstrings them and starts losing them games, solely due to his ineptitude. A lot of people have told me that one of the main reasons our offensive play calling has not been more wide open was because Jefferson was not smart enough to remember or understand an extensive playbook. For a long time, I was skeptical of that excuse, but after watching him play for over 2 seasons, I'm starting to come around. Just the fact that after this long he still runs backwards or at the sideline instead of at the DE during an option is enough to convince me. In Lee's freshman season where he got chewed up and spit out, you could tell he was losing his faith toward the end of the season. I'm seeing that in JJ already. Something needs to be done. I have no idea what should be done, but if it doesn't happen quickly, we are in trouble.
To be fair he said they were weeks away. That's all I got. I'm done with Jefferson after last night, though, so it isn't a surprise. The rest of your post was very good and I agreed with all of it. 'Specially this part: You can't skip a rock and have it caught. I think alot of his problem is that no one's pushing him. If I can quote my favorite movie: "But you know, Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired."
If that's true it should make for a very interesting next couple of weeks. Remember, Garrett got his scholarship pulled EXACTLY because the coaches were seeing a poor attitude and lack of effort. Miles' infamous stubbornness may win out in the end, but lackluster effort and an attitude are the quickest way to get benched.
Didn't even think about that possible angle. You have a point there. I don't remember Lee ever throwing tantrums when HE was losing games. If he did, I musta blocked that out too with the rest of the '08 season.
When are you people going to get it? WE DON'T HAVE A QUARTERBACK!!! We are not going to have a quarterback. We are going to have to make do with what we have. It's a shame, but it is what it is. You cannot conjure up a great QB. You cannot make JJ or JL a great QB. You coach your ass off and try to win despite not having a QB. So far so good. For god's sake, quit pining away and screaming that Miles needs to do something. He's doing what he can. He can only do so much. Damn. You people are ridiculous. (Sorry, Jester, this is not really directed at you)
I think your missing the point some are trying to make. JJ has regressed. So they want to see if J Lee can still throw the damn thing. I THINK people would much rather watch Lee sling it than JJ throw it in the dirt...
So would I. I don't think it could be any worse. But then again, maybe it could. JJ hasn't regressed, he just hasn't improved. It wasn't that long ago JL was throwing pick 6s and people were screaming for JJ. These are the same 2 guys. See my point? We do not have a Quarterback. Once we realize that, we can begin to appreciate what's happening, not what we wish would happen 'cause it ain't gonna happen. Capiche?
